Second Amendment

January 6th, 2014 . by Cary

“It is the manners and spirit of a people which preserve a republic in vigor. A degeneracy in these is a canker which soon eats to the heart of its laws and constitution.”

Thomas Jefferson (1781)
The Patriot Post – Founder’s Quote Daily

Random mention of Obama(THHO), but not because I think he’s a canker or anything like that. No, really.

Two items from the world of the Second Amendment today:

Magpul Industries, formerly headquartered and manufacturing in Colorado, was not happy with the political, “feel good” decisions made by several Colorado State legislators to impose unconstitutional limits on magazine capacity. Promising to move, they announced this week that they are moving their manufacturing facilities to Wyoming and their corporate headquarters to Texas. As a side dish of “eat my votes” several of the above mentioned legislators lost their positions through nasty recall elections. Liberal Left East Coast money was poured into the losing defenses of the legislators to no avail.

I view this item with mixed feelings – good for the owner, because he is standing by his opinion. As a company, I have said before that businesses should stay out of social and public dispute. I feel OK by this one, though, because the business is moving to a place where they can continue to be profitable – which is the bottom line for businesses.

In Detroit, there’s a new chief in town. James Craig started his law enforcement career in the city of Los Angeles. There, he formed his basic opinion that an unarmed society is a safer society, in spite of evidence to the contrary. He was selected as the Chief in Portland, Maine. His first official act was to start rejecting a stack of concealed carry permit applications. He had a small epiphany and realized that the state he was in, with the large number of concealed carry permits already issued, had fewer homicides per year than any single week in Los Angeles. He stopped rejecting the applications, and started seriously considering them. Chief Craig is now the Chief of Police in … DETROIT! Last Thursday, he announced a 7% drop in violent crime in 2013, and called for the arming of more citizens. Not a bad turn-around for someone who used to think no one should be armed …

Anytime a lefty can be made to see the light, that’s a good thing. Supporting the constitution trumos “feewings” every time.

Monday – Pruning Time

September 9th, 2013 . by Cary

“The multiplication of public offices, increase of expense beyond income, growth and entailment of a public debt are indications soliciting the employment of the pruning knife.”

–Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Spencer Roane, 1821

Founder’s Daily Quote

You know what’s really sad? There are 535 “representatives” in Washington, DC who ran for office, are running for re-election, or will be running for re-election on the platform of “Reducing the Debt”. Problem is, it’s the fox guarding the henhouse – these same “representatives” are the ones who GENERATE the debt, in the form of creating offices, departments, czars, programs, benefits, and whatnot. None of them have yet to remove an office, department, czar, program, benefit, or whatnot in order to demonstrate their willingness to reduce the debt and, consequently, the size of the Government machine and the not insignificantly onerous rules regulations and requirements mandated by these areas on businesses and, therefore, the economy. No, they want to see MORE government, not less. They think We, the People, need to see more government in order to know that we are getting enough bang for our buck.

I would be quite happy to have less bang, less buck taken from me, and less government interference in the economic engine that is the Free Market system of the United States.

Not just the current administration, either – I’m looking back at nearly one hundred years of uncontrolled government growth. We can’t support or sustain this much longer without a crash waking us up, shaking us out, and breaking a lot of households. It will be devastating. Just imagine what happens when all the welfare recipients (deserved and un- alike) realize there are more of them than there are of the providers – and the benefits are no longer coming. That will be an ugly day.

#FAIRTAX

July 29th, 2013 . by Cary

“Besides, to lay and collect internal taxes in this extensive country must require a great number of congressional ordinances, immediately operation upon the body of the people; these must continually interfere with the state laws and thereby produce disorder and general dissatisfaction till the one system of laws or the other, operating upon the same subjects, shall be abolished.”

–Federal Farmer, Antifederalist Letter, 1787

Founder’s Quote Daily

I have an idea – institute the Fair Tax and watch revenue climb – once capitalism isn’t fettered, it runs really well …

I am too much of a realist to think that this country could run on donations made out of the goodness of the citizen’s hearts, so tax is a necessary evil. Income tax slams those who can afford it the least, while those who CAN afford to pay the taxes can also afford to have lots of neat little deductions.

Jealousy vs. Necessity

July 22nd, 2013 . by Cary

It’s tough to depend on someone else. It’s even tougher as an independent colonist to turn over your hard-won freedom to a group of people who claim to have your best interest at heart. So, jealous of your freedom, you let them have the power to rule – in a limited manner.

“Free government is founded in jealousy, and not in confidence; it is jealousy and not confidence which prescribes limited constitutions, to bind down those whom we are obliged to trust with power.”

–Thomas Jefferson, The Kentucky Resolutions, 1799

Keep Your Nose Out Of Our State

July 1st, 2013 . by Cary

“I consider the government of the United States as interdicted by the Constitution from intermeddling with religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises. This results not only from the provision that no law shall be made respecting the establishment or free exercise of religion, but from that also which reserves to the States the powers not delegated to the United States. Certainly, no power to prescribe any religious exercise or to assume authority in any religious discipline has been delegated to the General Government. It must then rest with the States.”

–Thomas Jefferson, letter to Samuel Miller, 1808

Founder’s Quote Daily

This means that the Federal Government is limited to what the Constitution says it can do. Education is not on that list. Energy Control is not on that list. Forcing people to buy insurance that they cannot afford is not on that list. Supporting foreign terrorists is not on that list.

Enough of your actions, Obama. Enough of the Government running and ruining the lives of the citizens. Time to trim this branch back to the trunk.

(private message to the NSA goons who are reading this: I am an American. I have certain rights given to me by God. Nothing you do or say will stop me from exercising those rights. I was born free, and I will die free, if need be, to do my part in assuring that future generations have that chance also)
