Day Off – or Off Day?

January 17th, 2012 . by Cary

My day off has switched to Tuesdays. It may change again in the future, depending on the scheduling needs of the store. We’ve been training a new closer, and so far so good. It will be nice to be back down to 45 hour weeks again …

Since it’s my day off, I will be working on the cars. Mine, because it’s old and needs nearly constant attention, and TMBWitW’s, because it has decided to cop an attitude now that it’s paid off. For instance, today it wants a new starter, I think – I’m going to have to jumpstart it and get it to the nearest diagnostician.

And then there’s the cats.

They have decided that they want to live outside, so I will be building them an area of safe refuge in a shady corner of the yard. You know, keep the dogs out of their food bowls, someplace to curl up and take a nap without worrying about the dogs using them as chew toys, etc. MEG keeps asking when the “Cat House” will be ready for them …

Well, the longer I use the computer the longer the chores will take.

First September Friday

Got a busy day planned (as I write this the evening before, and plan to have it published at 0601 Friday morning) starting with Cinnamon going to the vet – one of the fosters (who are both leaving this weekend) bit her ear. Dang it. Poor Cinnamon – she was the one that got attacked by Princess, another foster, several years ago – and she is so gentle and loving that she doesn’t fight back.

This early morning appointment (0845) necessitates moving the chiropractor to a little later in the day – but not much later, because I have a dentist appointment (teeth cleaning time! with a full upper plate, it takes half the time of everyone else!) at 1130 followed by Cinnamon’s diabetes checkup visit at 1445. Due to the timing of her insulin shot, the visits can’t be combined. Because their was blood involved, it can’t wait much later in the day to be taken care of.

Whew! And I’m just getting warmed up!

Then I need to finalize the trimming of the doors and one shelf, along with finding a set of hinges for a corner cabinet, for the Scottsdale RR Club cabinets. I was going to end up skinning them with laminate, but I really don’t have the tools needed to skin existing cabinets. I can build laminate cabinets from the git go, but skinning them after they are hanging on the walls is another matter entirely, and one I do not wish to undertake this late in my wood career.

With the Toy Store Manager career coming right along, I think it’s time to hang up the wood tools. I’ll hang on to a few items that I need for work around the house, but things like the industrial strength/sized table saw is going to find a new home. If you are interested, please call BR-549.

New (and probably overdue) addition to the blog roll (I really should rename that “Daily” part …) – a12IggyMom needs your attention. She’s conservative, and kinda direct most of the time (snicker – duck). Give her a look see.

I sure hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day Weekend. Don’t get too rowdy, stay safe, stay sane. I’ll see about getting back in touch on Tuesday or thereabouts.

Shelf View

April 17th, 2011 . by Cary

First, pardon the fuzziness (i was trying to get the shot before she realized i was taking a picture), and ignore the lady on the ladder talking on the phone while merchandising … and look at the wall beyond her. This is the area that was worked on. I tried to get some other pictures downloaded from my phone, but there seems to be a glitch – like the fact that the phone won’t let me see the pictures I took through the USB cord, I have to message them to myself in order to get them, and the one of the other side is too big to message … weird, huh?

Now, this shot shows the same wall, but with the retro-fitted Borders bookcases, library rail, and lighting valance.

And, the last section of wall. This is the view as you enter the Education Room from the cash/wrap area.

Nothing like a job actually completed once in a while.

Best. Boss. Ever.

[exterior shot, workman using jig saw to cut soft metal library rail. suddenly, the saw breaks apart in the workman’s hand, not causing injury, but by the look on his face there is concern. female walks into scene.]

female: “What was that?”

workman: “My jig saw just … well, broke.”

female: “Do you have another?

workman: “Nope – should have been using my hacksaw, I just figured this would be faster. I sure didn’t expect it to break like that.”

female: [hands a credit card to workman] “Here, can you get me an ice tea while out getting a new saw? On me, of course.”

[fade out, with camera locked on workman’s stunned face]

Weather Changes – Always Has, Always Will

April 9th, 2011 . by Cary

Last week, if you recall, I posted a picture of my thermometer showing 100 degrees at 1600 hours (or thereabouts) on Thursday afternoon. Today, we had rain. And 45 degrees. All. Day. Long.

On the other hand, I got the last matched upper in place, and most of the ladder rail and valance in on the “new to us” bookcases at Kidstop.

(private note to the city of phoenix prosecutor – notice i used quotation marks? are ya gonna haul me in and question me about them, too?)
