Thinning the Herd

December 3rd, 2008 . by Cary

Much as I hate to admit it, I need to thin the list of blogs on my blogroll. Of course, as long as blogrolling.com is down for the count, I won’t be able to anything with that list, but my back-up list is going to be much shorter before the day is done – today’s round-up has shown me several blogs that have fallen by the wayside.

I mourn the loss of each of these blogs, as I picked them for their content and the personality of the author; the fact they have lost interest or have moved on is perhaps part of the self-vetting of the “new media” that we are a part of. Not a bad thing, but not something to look forward to, either.

Life moves forward.

I do that periodically as well. I want people on The Usual Suspects who post regularly. One post every week, for me, just doesn’t cut it. Unfortunately, I cut them. If I put someone on my very personal The Usual Suspects blogroll, it’s because I actively read them, they post regularly, and their content, as YOURS, is typically excellent.

We all have to thin the herd. My problem is that for every 5 I add I only manage to thin out 1 or 2.

BZ – I agree. As I was doing the Round Up, I realized that some of the links hadn’t posted anything new since March or May – I’m sorry, I really liked their writing, but without anything new…

Richard – I hear ya. There are a LOT of talented (and interesting!) folk out there.

I probably need to do the same thing. My “blogroll” is simply a list of my favorite reads. A couple of them don’t update much any more, but I’m remaining optimistic in that I hope they’ll resume posting.

Always the optimism that they will start updating more often… I know what you mean.
