Founder’s Quotes

June 29th, 2013 . by Cary

“Temporary delusions, prejudices, excitements, and objects have irresistible influence in mere questions of policy. And the policy of one age may ill suit the wishes or the policy of another. The constitution is not subject to such fluctuations. It is to have a fixed, uniform, permanent construction. It should be, so far at least as human infirmity will allow, not dependent upon the passions or parties of particular times, but the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever.”

–Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution

Founder’s Quote Daily

I am subscribed to The Patriot Post – I think through Facebook, but I could be wrong – and part of that subscription is a daily quote from a founder of these United States called, appropriately enough, the Founder’s Quote Daily. They contain very pertinent and important thoughts on the founding of this country, and they should serve as reminders to those who have decided to forget history. Those of us who have not forgotten history use them as boosters, to help us get through what is happening to our country, and as a rally point on the road to restoring this great nation. Which, by the way, will happen.

Whether it happens peacefully or through the shedding of blood remains to be seen, although there are those who believe we are past the point of a peaceful resolution.

Slow Saturday

June 15th, 2013 . by Cary

My new Saturday routine – get up early enough to pick up dog poop before I go to the Men’s Group to sing and play … this afternoon, I picked up my new glasses today. I had ordered new frames and lenses, and also a pair of sunglasses. My eyes are bad enough to require progressive tri- or quad-focals. The sunglasses only have the distance vision in them, so it’s kind of a safety thing, too – I can’t read the phone without my regular glasses, and the sun is usually bright enough that I ain’t driving around without the sunglasses.

How’s that for an exciting post? Now, don’t let all this excitement get to your head and make you run off and do something crazy …

Slow Saturday

February 9th, 2013 . by Cary

I’m headed to the men’s fellowship shortly. Woke up this morning to a damp outdoors; it had sprinkled a bit. Got to thinking about friends in the northeast – hope ya’ll are safe and not stuck somewhere.

Took TMBWitW’s car to the shop for an oil change and an engine mount replacement (used to be I could work on these things myself, but the specialized tools they call for now are ridiculous). We have finally “discovered” Wilhelm’s in Peoria, they’ve only been open since 1928.

May your Saturday be only as productive as you want it to be.

The Second Amendment

January 5th, 2013 . by Cary

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

I have been thinking about the recent events that are leading to more restrictive/outright bans on weapons. I happened to stumble across this blog entry while perusing the Facebook group, United States Gun Owners Association. Please read it.

As a responsible firearm owner (read: I’ve never let my gun attack innocent victims), and a formerly active-duty Marine, I’ve always been aware that it may come to the government ruling that my guns must be turned in. I have also been of the mind set that if they insist I turn in my weapon, then I will do so 180 to 240 grains at a time. This article has pointed out to me that I am not only expected to defend my ownership, I am constitutionally protected to do so.

Thought you could use some good news to start off the New Year.

Today’s Word is “Irony”

August 11th, 2012 . by Cary

No, not when you get the thingy hot and press the wrinkles out of your shorts.

I have gleefully stolen this from a well-armed lady in Internet Land:

The SNAP/Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to “Please Do Not Feed The Animals.” This is because the animals may grow dependent on handouts and not learn to take care of themselves.

That is all.
