A View From Tuesday

September 30th, 2008 . by Cary

Before heading out this morning, I thought I would take a quick peek at the ol’ blogroll, and my first stop was over at BlackFive. Down the page a bit was a link to a NewYorkSlimes piece whining about the common sense that prevailed over the king’s ransom being handed out to failures. Story here.

This part of the story is what caught my eye, and is triggering a bit of a common sense rant:

Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr., appearing at the White House late Monday afternoon, warned that the failure of the rescue plan could dry up credit for businesses big and small, making them unable to make payrolls or buy inventory.

Maybe I’ve been going about this “business owner” thing all wrong – I thought you bought inventory and paid wages out of the money you made from the service and/or product you provided? You know, collect on the invoice, turn around and pay your employees, buy more inventory, pay the utilities, and the leftover goes in the owner’s pocket or, if he’s smart, into a CONTINGENCY FUND for when someone doesn’t pay the invoice right away…

Obviously, I need to rethink my business model. I need to start “leveraging” my “receivables” and “monetizing” my “books” so I, too, can show false profits and qualify for a government handout.

It is obvious that I am involved in the wrong end of the business world. I need to get into the money supplying end of it, instead of the money using end of it.

Then again, what do I know? I’m just a red necked, bog dwelling hick with no formal ed-uh-muh-cay-shun. The fact that my business runs without a debt probably disqualifies me from belonging to the great herd at the public trough, anyway.

Thursday Round Up

August 7th, 2008 . by Cary

Good stuff going on today – let’s start out with Gawfer, my squid buddy, who got off blogspot and into a sleek WordPress template on a paid server…

I’m going to group all these together, as they all have a common theme: The Invasion of the United States by Armed Members of the Mexican Army!
Old Soldier, GuyK, , and American and Proud.

GuyK just figured out his camera also does videos…

Richard has a question about the migration patterns of birds around his neck of the … lake.

Blackfive has a great lineup – they always have a great lineup – and I will correct my statement – they are decidedly pro-military and quite biased in that regard. They love the military. They support the military. Some of them are still in the military.

Write on the Right displays the inequality of the sexes.

Akinoluna has a tough entry, and some scary thoughts about her fellow Marines.

The Loon gets the lake excited about the Freedom Walk.

Greybeard has re-gained the weight he lost a year ago, and is headed back to the “eatrightandexercise” diet that was successful for him before. Matter of fact, I need to do that too. I’ve re-gained what I lost while talking to him about it…

Speaking of Greybeard, he pointed me to the newest member of my blogroll, RattlerGator. Good read, and thoughtful insight from what looks to be a great addition.

They went on a shooting expedition over at cookiecrumbexpress. Pictures!

Andrew has a thought about television.

Our Sovereign Joy has a good post about tradition.

Amboy Times has a report on the effects of socialism (*cough*obama*cough*) does to a country.

Jenn has an update on the highly awaited Nancy Pelosi book tour…

Political Pistachio had a good show last night – did ya miss it?

Kathi highlights the book “I Will Not Be Broken” on Mail Call! Don’t forget to check out her Wednesday Hero.

Fraud, Phishing, and Misdeeds has good news – the largest fraud ring in history has been broken!

Brother Johnny finished up his series on Nothing Good To Say over on Amazed In His Presence.

the BLOG talks about the roots of genius…

Steve talks about another world on A Sense of Place.

Kris is having noise issues with the restaurant next door on This Is Stoke Newington.

“I Told You So” coming from a redhead? I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you. See what she told us at Samantha Speaks.

Ablur wants you to sit back and let go of your stress for a minute…

BZ has a short post up while he’s more concerned with the health of his Dad. Prayers to the family, BZ.

Some tips to those running for president over on Dumb Looks Still Free.

Thinking Outside the Box

July 8th, 2008 . by Cary

Inside joke, the title.

As in, inside the cat’s room. Yes, I’m talking about a certain cat who likes to think outside the box. Normally, a good way to come up with a solution that had not been thought of before. In this context, I’m going to have to vote against any further thinking outside the box, as it results in pee by the door and cat poop on the floor.

Cinnamon, the little brown dog, tells me that if she were allowed in the cat room, there wouldn’t be a poop-on-the-floor issue.

I don’t wanna know.

I managed to sabotage my bike riding efforts yet again – I left my phone (with the alarm function) in the closet last night, in stead of on the bathroom counter. That way, when the alarm went off, it was muffled by the closed closet door…

So – how’s your week going?

Brain … Slipping Out of Gear …

July 1st, 2008 . by Cary

So, I re-read yesterday’s entry. Up at the top, where I was laying out the plan of the morning?

Yeah, forgot to mention that the snooze button got all the miles, instead of the bike. And then again, this morning. I am never going to get an exercise plan going as long as I stay up late and have a snooze button.

Someplace along the way I also wrote a guest post for My Point regarding the Mexican Nationals that have been attacking here in Phoenix. (so far, they have only been attacking drug/drop houses, we’ll see how long that holds true)

Today is MEG’s 18-month visit. I cannot believe how fast time is flying. Luckily, we have pictures.

Friday!

Go here. Buy a shirt, wear it on Fridays, and declare your support for the troops.

Today, I have on my “Lightning Sharp” polo – I’m going to be out and about, doing some final collecting on the delivery contract. Paul‘s right – I should wear a jacket with these things when I’m elected. That will really look sharp. Sues, I may need to order a few more of these shirts in about a year and a half.

I’ve come to realize that with a child as young as MEG (7 months and 1 week, thanks for asking. She’s a real cutey. I’ll get some pics up soon.) my posting is going to be sporadic. I had quite a few great ideas over the last few days, but I couldn’t get in here and get them “on paper” so to speak, since MEG likes to help with the keyboard action.

Weight update – I’ve plateaued at about 197. Can’t seem to drop anymore right now, but I’m hoping the fact that I’ve quit drinking soda again (note – watch for Coka-Cola to restate a quarterly profit soon) will help me break past that and keep dropping.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, support Warriors for Innocence, and write in Cary Cartter for President in 2008!
