Lookie What I Saw

April 21st, 2008 . by Cary

Sunday I was able to got over to the Glendale Airpark, where this beautiful B-17, Sentimental Journey (complete with nose art!) was parked for display. This gorgeous ship is based out of Mesa, Arizona and is flown by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) to different venues and in conjunction with other birds to keep the history of air combat alive.

This particular bomber was delivered to the Army Air Corps in 1945, but never saw combat. It was, however, fully fitted with all gun positions, and a rack of (dummy, I hope) bombs in the bomb bay.

It was really great for a history hog like me to be able to visit an old bird like this. I look forward to other tours, and will share them with you.

Today I am seeing red. (besides wearing it!)

If you listened to the show, you know why. If not, check back here later when I have the time to complete the post.

All I can say is – with the right of Freedom of Expression comes the Responsibility of What You Say.

For now, check this at Gawfer’s Blog. And this Texas Fred’s. And this, also at Texas Fred’s. For another entry, see here at American Thinker (Thanks, Loon!). Loon has a word here.

Article here.

UPDATE:

OK, I have time now. I’ve also spoken with several friends. And I have cooled off a bit and evened my keel.

Dear Time Magazine:
First, let me reassure you that I fully support your right to free speech, and I will defend to the death your right to make a complete and total ass out of yourself. Looks like you’ve accomplished that with your planned cover for the April 21, 2008 issue.

For shame, Time. You, of all institutes, should have realized that you were messing with something much more important than life and death. You have taken on the collective memories and history of the United States Marine Corps in general, World War II veterans specifically, and Ira Hayes, Mike Stranko, Franklin Sousley, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, and John Bradley exactly.

What would induce you to think that the American public (other than left leaning, liberal, global warming-panic-stewards) would see this as an acceptable use of this icon? “Global warming” is an unproven MYTH of enormous proportions inflated to emergency status by the myopic and stunted memory of people who forget that weather cycles are just that – CYCLES – and everything will balance out in the end. Using the photograph of the flag-raising on Mt. Surabachi to further the falsified claims that we, as mere humans, can affect something on a global scale is pure hogwash.

If I were a subscriber, I would cancel my subscription. Since I’m not, I will be boycotting your company and everything you touch. Even if you withdraw this cover and apologize, I will make sure not to give you another red cent of my hard earned dollars for the crap you have tried to foist on the people of the world.

Sincerely,

Cary B. Cartter

Tuesday Stuff

April 15th, 2008 . by Cary

First, a very secret message to my fellow members of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy:

We’ve been found out. Alicia Keys, of all people, has figured out that whitey invented gansta rap so all the impressionable black folk would go around killing each other. We’re going to have to come up with another plan, since we’ve been outed on this one. Please leave your ideas in the comment section here. One good by-product of this discovery – maybe rap will now go the way of disco. I know, one can only hope…

Next, a quick update about my weekend. I know I usually get this done on Monday, but here’s the rundown:

Saturday was the community-wide yard sale. Like good do-bees, we put our prized possessions on our driveway and stood in the sun for most of the morning. In the process, The Most Beautiful Woman in the World (delicate flower that she is) managed to get sunburned on her feet, legs, arms, and face.

(Quick side note – during the course of the morning, a lady stopped by wearing a red shirt with Dale Jr,’s name and old number on it. I mentioned that I liked her shirt. She asked if I was a fan of NASCAR, and I allowed that I did manage to follow it somewhat closely. She asked who I liked, and I told her I’ve always followed Junior’s exploits, but since Senior died I’ve spread my attention to a few others – like Jeff Burton, Dale Jarrett, Michael Waltrip – but watching Junior will always be fun. She walked back to her car, and brought over a couple of Junior’s new hats – one in each sponsor (National Guard and Mountain Dew), a shirt/hat/lanyard combo in the black number 3 scheme, and two 1:24 scale die casts of Junior’s new cars. She showed them to me, and I said they were pretty sharp – then she handed the whole batch to me and said “I’m sharing today, I’ve got more of this stuff than I know what to do with. I’m headed to the track after this.” That was cool.)

Anyway – Monday morning, TMBWitW wakes up with really bad sun pains. She called in, then waited for the doctor’s office to open so she could get medical advice. She had brought work home on Friday, as is her habit, and she had plenty to do besides, so she pretty much hogged – er, was on the computer most of the day yesterday.

So, that’s my weekend. How was yours?

Plain Old Thursday

April 10th, 2008 . by Cary

No linky-love today, sorry. Do be a dear and check out the blogrolls, though.

I’m Thinking of the “O” Word on BlogTalkRadio tomorrow morning – I’ll be discussing Arizona’s Proposition 100, Arizona’s leading anti-DUI efforts, some driving tips, and possibly equal time for the cats. – 0700 Pacific, 1000 Eastern. Call in number is (347) 838-9573. I dare you to call in.

I double dare you.

I better get going – TMBWitW’s benefits company wants proof that the dependents she is claiming are really hers – so I have to find the marriage license. Anyone seen it lately? I have no idea which file to check first…
