Shelf View

April 17th, 2011 . by Cary

First, pardon the fuzziness (i was trying to get the shot before she realized i was taking a picture), and ignore the lady on the ladder talking on the phone while merchandising … and look at the wall beyond her. This is the area that was worked on. I tried to get some other pictures downloaded from my phone, but there seems to be a glitch – like the fact that the phone won’t let me see the pictures I took through the USB cord, I have to message them to myself in order to get them, and the one of the other side is too big to message … weird, huh?

Now, this shot shows the same wall, but with the retro-fitted Borders bookcases, library rail, and lighting valance.

And, the last section of wall. This is the view as you enter the Education Room from the cash/wrap area.

Nothing like a job actually completed once in a while.

[exterior shot, workman using jig saw to cut soft metal library rail. suddenly, the saw breaks apart in the workman’s hand, not causing injury, but by the look on his face there is concern. female walks into scene.]

female: “What was that?”

workman: “My jig saw just … well, broke.”

female: “Do you have another?

workman: “Nope – should have been using my hacksaw, I just figured this would be faster. I sure didn’t expect it to break like that.”

female: [hands a credit card to workman] “Here, can you get me an ice tea while out getting a new saw? On me, of course.”

[fade out, with camera locked on workman’s stunned face]

Weather Changes – Always Has, Always Will

April 9th, 2011 . by Cary

Last week, if you recall, I posted a picture of my thermometer showing 100 degrees at 1600 hours (or thereabouts) on Thursday afternoon. Today, we had rain. And 45 degrees. All. Day. Long.

On the other hand, I got the last matched upper in place, and most of the ladder rail and valance in on the “new to us” bookcases at Kidstop.

(private note to the city of phoenix prosecutor – notice i used quotation marks? are ya gonna haul me in and question me about them, too?)

I’m enjoying a day off between bouts of re-purposing the shelving units from Borders. Final push is tomorrow, and then my part will be finished.

And One

First post of a new millennium (of posts) – yeah, no pressure.

At the Store, the bookcases are going in with a minimum of fuss and bother. There was a mis-measurement or mis-communication about the measurements (I didn’t measure, I’m just installing this time) so there was a slight mix up about the shorter wall – we ended up moving the cases after putting some slatwall back up, and then taking back down. No problems, though – all in a day’s work. Today I start on the upper cases. They all need to be cut down, and one section over the doorway between the two walls will require some fancy rework. The driving factor for the rework is the library ladder that was included in the bookcase purchase. The Education Room is really starting to look a lot more library-ish – most of the existing bookcases are being re-purposed and replacing slatwall shelving. It’s going to look pretty good in there once it’s finished. The whole project should be completed by end of day Saturday, God willing.

Have a good Thursday – remember to wear Red tomorrow.
