“Hurricane” Irene

August 29th, 2011 . by Cary

The headline reads “Flooding, cleanup in wake of storm” and I had to read the article to make sure they weren’t talking about a flood of tears in the liberal news outlet’s studios, since there was nothing overly dramatic to blow out of proportion. The cleanup of those tears, according to the subheadline, could run into the billions.

Hype? You betcha. On the front page of today’s Arizona Republic, there is a picture of an oceanfront house in Fairfield, Connecticut with what appears to be the back porch collapsed into the high water. The rest of the house is standing, and, at least from the photograph, still above water.

The AZREP caption reads “A home in Fairfield, Conn., is submerged after Tropical Storm Irene sent seawater flooding into shoreline communities and destroyed oceanfront homes as it surged across New England on Sunday, toppling trees and cutting power.”

Ok, it’s a small example, but typical of the OverActiveMedia – didja notice the use of the word “submerged” in the caption in connection with the pictured house? Just curious, but when did “submerged” come to mean “when a part of the back porch falls into the water”?

Like my buddy Texas Fred says, what a NewsGasm!

Saturday – Again.

August 27th, 2011 . by Cary

Sorry for the radio silence. I’ve just been – meh.

Politics has been worrying me, I’ve been watching the “best” and “brightest” tear this country apart bit by bit (over several administrations, not just the current one, although the current one seems to have made a mockery of the speed at which the previous ones were doing it) and I do have some friends in the path of the latest storm – again, though, with this handy-dandy crisis brewing – at the start of a weekend, yet! – what is the bummer in chief going to slip past the sleeping American public this time?

The brightest points of my life are my fellowship, my wife, and my daughter. While work is enjoyable, I would rather not have to, but while I am there I am making my best effort to keep up and learn. And learn. And learn. Boss lady sure knows a lot about retail, trying to keep up with her can be tricky sometimes.

Readers who are still following my sporadic postings may be aware that we had taken in a couple of dogs for a friend, just for a few weeks – about five months ago – and we’ve been trying to place them ever since. The buff colored cocker spaniel, Max, is headed for Kansas eventually – but the last word from there was that the ride fell through. I’m fixin’ to take a Saturday off and do a turn and burn over a Friday, Saturday and Sunday to take him there.

The other dog, a Chinese Shar-Pei mix, is fitting in with our dogs, but she still needs a home where she gets more attention. We have four to pay attention to; she comes up short most of the time. She is very sweet and loving, and if anyone lives along the Phoenix-Kansas (just north of Wichita) travel path, I would be willing to make the detour …

Arm Yourselves Red Friday

I have declared myself to be a Mexican Drug Cartel. I figure I’ll be getting my first load of guns and ammo any day now …

Keeping myself busy until they show up – wearing red, getting a haircut, going up to An Affair With Trains to check out the new location of the layout, hanging with my daughter all day (the best part, right there!) and generally enjoying a day off.

If I don’t see you before next week, have a good weekend. Enjoy fellowship with like-minded individuals. Practice a few rights as enumerated in the Constitution, especially the first two.

Ooh – Pick Me!

August 18th, 2011 . by Cary

Have you seen the attempt at publicity that Jersey (S)hore and Abercrombie & Fitch have thought up? Seems A&F wants to “pay” Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino (and his fellow cast members) to not wear their brand – because all the attention that Mike brings to the brand through his “show” is unwanted.

Right.

I have an idea, and it might relieve some of the financial strain around the homestead here in Glendale – what if I threatened to start wearing A&F clothes? You want an undesirable amount of publicity? Let the “cool” “hip” and “in” crowds get a load of an overweight, out of shape, conservative old white guy wearing the latest styles – that‘ll get the money rolling in to not wear a brand!

Wait a minute – I just had a thought. A&F want to advertise their graphic tees but then they use these skinny little kids that the shirts just hang on, and you don’t really see the graphic very well. What if I offered to start modeling for them? I could fill out their shirt, and show them every piece of the graphic – there wouldn’t be any folds on the shirts, that for sure! Hey, Abercrombie & Fitch, how’s about that deal?

How’s about a graphic tee spread across that belly?

Contact information is in the sidebar, Mike Jeffries, Mr. CEO of A&F. I’ll be waiting for your offer, one way or the other!

My Annual Letter To The Editor

August 8th, 2011 . by Cary

I sent it in today, I also doubt if they will print this one or pay attention to it:

I would like to ask the Arizona Republic’s Editorial Board to make a small change in their style book. The general consensus of the Mainstream Media seems to be that a group of twenty representatives backed by a certain grassroots effort is the reason S&P downgraded the country’s credit rating. Amazing feat, actually – since they are only twenty out of over 500 members of Congress – and they are not backed by the Tea Party, but the TEA Party. TEA stands for Taxed Enough Already – which is why the TEA Party endorses candidates (of any political persuasion) who will stand against any increase in taxes.

I look forward to the correct name being used in future articles explaining how such a small group of freshman lawmakers can hold sway over the entire congress.

I gotta give a tip of the Stetson to Texas Fred for pointing this out – like many others, I had just glossed over the fact that the local bird cage liner always used the wrong appellation.
