Thursday in America

May 8th, 2008 . by Cary

I normally (well, most of the time) (OK, when I have time…) have a link fest and list my blog reads here along with their latest posts; since tomorrow’s show is going to feature my regular reads, I figured I would just chat a bit today. (Be sure to call in and let me know YOUR regular reads at (347) 838-9573. Or, drop in the chatroom to – uhm, chat – or just sit back and lurk as a listener. that’s fine. don’t participate. i’ll just drone on and on and on by myself. no, really, it’s fine.)

Sorry, forgot to mention the show is at 0700 Mountain Standard Time. No, we don’t do Daylight Savings. Yes, I’m on the same time as Pacific right now. No, I don’t know when it changes back. I don’t care. Remember? we don’t do it, so why keep track of it? Just go and sign up as a member of blogtalkradio, add me as a favorite, and you will get customized notice of when the show is, with YOUR time on it. Now, back to the regular column, which I so rudely interrupted:

Today TMBWitW was going to take the day off. Yesterday MEG started to run a slight fever and recycle everything that went in. Sure wish I had know about the recycling decision BEFORE I gave her the fruit snacks, but there you have it. In light of the recycling effort and TMBWitW’s quick trip to the urgent care center last night while I was at church, she decided to take today as a sick day instead.

(They are both napping right now, which is the only reason I am posting. Shhh. Don’t wake them up.)

Since it’s Thursday, I need to go out and bring the cans back in from the curb. I also need to sweep up the latest conglomeration of pet hair that is gathering in the corners. Oh, and if you all happen to see my black cat, Captain Midnight (he’s got tags and a chip) out and about, please tell him to stay out of the street and go home. No, he doesn’t normally go out. He’s an inside cat, like all the rest. While I was helping Logan get out this morning, Captain slipped out the door and was up and over the wall before I could get Logan situated and chase after Captain. What a stupid cat. I love him dearly, but if he runs off, I will never know what happened to him.

Remember to tune in tomorrow. I’ll talk to you then.

Doghouse

May 1st, 2008 . by Cary

As in, “I’m in the doghouse now!”

Thing is, she’s only sixteen months old (yesterday), and I can’t believe that she loves me so much, even when I mess up this badly.

You see, today is trash day. Last night, when I got home from church, I took the recycle bin out to the recycle barrel, and took both it and the trash barrel out to the curb.

They were picked up this morning, rather efficiently, I thought.

Now, I now why they were picked up so quickly.

You see, the recycle bin sits in the pantry. On the shelves above the bin are various and sundry foodstuffs. One particular item, a freezer zip-lock type baggie full of processed fruit-snacks, sits directly above the recycle bin, about two shelves up. (seasoned readers, and those who have good foreshadowing skills, can see where this is leading)

We went to the pantry this afternoon to get a fruit snack for the little girl. She pointed at the spot where the baggie should have been. I had a bit of a puzzled look on my face as I frantically searched the entire pantry, hoping beyond hope that, perhaps, it got placed on a different shelf.

No such luck.

As near as I can guess, the baggie landed in the recycle bin and I didn’t notice it.

(Dear City of Glendale:
Yes, I know that food does not belong in the recycle bin. It was an accident. Please forgive me, and don’t take away my recycle privileges. Please?)

She is not speaking to me at the moment. Hopefully, that will pass when I give her a piece of cheese instead.

Happy New Year’s Eve!

December 31st, 2007 . by Cary

Once in a while, things do get accomplished around here. I tend to start a lot of projects, and sometimes they don’t always get finished in any kind of timely manner, but things do get accomplished.

First Line of Trees

The trees are coming along. Sara, the black lab, really enjoys digging up newly planted trees, over and over again. I, on the other hand, do not enjoy planting the same trees over and over again. Those of you who can make leaps of logic have already figured out the conflict brewing. I have found a new use for the end product of the dog’s food processing abilities. (hint: they won’t dig in their own poo)

Speaking of little helpers:

Littlest Supervisor

MEG was supervising the installation of the new safety gate. She says I did a fine job.

Yesterday was her first birthday, and, of course, her first official birthday ‘cake:

Birthday Cake

Yes, that is frosting all over her face. And hands. And dress. And Dad’s shirt. And Dad’s hands. What you can’t see is the frosting and crumbs all over Gramma’s floor.

In case I don’t get a chance to do so later, let me take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, and support Warriors for Innocence!

Weekend Update

October 8th, 2007 . by Cary

With age comes great wisdom and, sometimes, a memory that is like swiss cheese.

Some time ago (okay, it was a month ago) I let you all know that an interview on Political Pistachio Radio had been rescheduled for Saturday. If you check the comments of the previous post, at least one of my loyal readers remembered.

I did not.

Doug Gibbs tried to e-mail me on Friday. I didn’t check my e-mail on Friday. Saturday morning I started attending a series at church called “The Truth Project” – a fascinating tour of what the world wants everyone to think. It was a three hour session, and when I finished I was scheduled to go to a remodel project that I had started Friday evening. Well, I checked my voice mail when I got out of church, and there was a message from Doug. He had called, with a twinge of panic in his voice, to remind me about the show.

I called him back, and we chatted a bit. I thanked him for reminding me (actual words: Doug:”You do remember you are scheduled for the show today, right?” me: “Now that you’ve mentioned it, I remember the conversation where we rescheduled…”) and headed for the job site; when the time came I sat down and took a break from the first phase (painting – and a face shield was employed after the first drop of ceiling paint landed square on the contact in my left eye – everything had a satin finish to it after that) and had a great interview with Doug. Wild Phil called in and asked a terrific question. Check out the archive, provided BlogTalk Radio has the sessions listed…

Wild Phil, it was great talking to you. Doug, I promise I will never forget again. I’ll start blogging about my appearances from the time I make the commitment until the day of the interview.

(Note to lefties, libbies, and the msm: this is called character growth, where someone makes a vow to improve themselves. it is not flip-flopping on the issue of scheduling.)

And the rest of you who listened in – thanks for listening! If you have any questions for me that we did not address on the show, drop me a comment here or an e-mail. I may not get right to the response, but it will be answered!

If you are the host of a radio show, BlogTalk or otherwise, I would not object to appearing on your show. I’m not afraid of the questions, as Saturday’s show demonstrated, just understand that I don’t have a bank of advisers filling me in on all the details of every issue in the world. I do, however, have two things most politicians appear to be lacking: common sense and the willingness to work for a living.

As for the rest of the weekend: church Sunday morning, and more painting Sunday afternoon. I’m watching MEG today, and I’ll be starting phase two – flooring – tonight. First order of business – remove the twenty year old shag carpeting that is currently being used as drop cloths…

Friday

September 21st, 2007 . by Cary

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It’s Friday. Go here, buy a shirt, and show your support.

Whoops – lost a whole week there. Sorry ’bout that – what with a head cold, a non-sleeping daughter, a bout of insomnia, an eye infection, and trying to actually accomplish things like building samples for the business, the blog tends to be pushed to the back burner on occasion. Oh, and Thursday afternoon – a migraine. Hadn’t had one of those in a while, so it was probably due.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no greater joy than to hold your infant in your arms as they sleep.

That is pure JOY.
