Here in the Valley of the Sun, we have a problem with lead acid batteries. They can’t stand the heat. Normally speaking, if you can get two summer cycles out of a battery, you are doing pretty well. Three summers, and you are in rare air. Which is why, as I was checking the receipt associated with my freshly dead battery yesterday morning, I was shocked – shocked – to discover that my battery has actually lasted four years and two months. which means, technically, that it lasted through most of five summers. (purchased 6/25/06, summer of 07, 08, 09, and most of 10).

Of course, it was at the most inconvenient time. I had just finished unloading some children’s furniture from the QX4 into the back of babystop and there was a UPS truck and trailer there waiting to get into the loading slot.

Turned the key – nothing.

I knew it was on it’s last legs – the starter had not been spinning with the usual verve and energy – but I was hoping to get to another payday before I had to replace it.

My boss is way very cool, however – she handed me her business expense credit card, and told me to use that – very cool, boss. You were my favorite boss of all time already (including that slave driver I worked for before I started at kidstop) and this just really cemented it.

So – the count is on. How long will this one last?

If anyone has any doubts about what these people think of us and our country, check out these pictures taken by an acquaintance of mine who went to the rally in Phoenix Saturday 7/31/10 in response to SB 1070. The illegals had written all over the AZ and US Flags, laid them on the ground, and were walking on them! (I don’t remember seeing this on any network or cable news programs.)
I shared these pics with my friend who is a Phoenix cop/detective. I asked him why nobody was punished for desecrating our flags, his response…..

“In response to your question about the legality of Desecration of the American Flag, you are correct, this is illegal. However, it is a crime with the Federal Government. Meaning the Feds will have to prosecute for the crime and considering they will not prosecute for illegal trespassing into the Country, what makes you think they will prosecute anyone for spray painting and walking on an American flag?“

I don’t know about ya’ll, but this ticks me off. According to the Supreme Court, desecration of the United States Flag is a form of speech protected under the First Amendment. I have no problem with flag burners as long as they wrap themselves up in their work. How do you defend this type of action, without tearing the country apart? It may not be a Federal Crime (in a Fed full of criminals, who is defining federal crime anymore?) but it is an affront to all those who have served for this Great Country. If the Feds won’t do their jobs, then it’s time the Fed’s EMPLOYERS start doing it for them. We can start by promoting them all to the position of civilian! Remember in November!

I’m thinking that the American Public (you know, the “WE” part of We The People) are getting sick and tired of judges who block laws that have been voted on by We The People. Judges are like umpires – they are not the ones who are playing, they are the ones who are supposed to be making sure the players are following the rules.

Posting this late Thursday evening, since I’m headed to Tucson first thing in the morning to help my sister with a few things around Mom’s home before it can be put on the market. Lynn has been taking care of a lot of this herself, and I wish I could have been helping more often, but with only one real day off now, and that usually filled with a honeydo list or trying to finish up the last of the wood projects, I don’t get down there near as often as I should. So, tomorrow I’ll be down there.

I’ll be back tomorrow night, and probably too tired to do anything. Saturday morning I”m up early again and scheduled to play bass at the homeless breakfast service before I head to the store for another full day. Sunday I get to sleep in until 0700 – if I can!
