Rare Wednesday Post

December 12th, 2007 . by Cary

First, a quick open note to Loon: The post you suggested is on it’s way. I’ve got to gather my thoughts for that one.

Second: I promised a few pictures of the yard before the trees go in. Here’s one, ignore the small brown lumps on the ground. I do have five dogs, you know.

The dog on the left is Logan, he of the polyneuropathy, where the nerves and the muscles don’t talk to one another. As you can see, his hind end doesn’t work as well as his front end, but he still manages to get around. The black flag tail in the lower right is Mackenzie, the hyper-active Cocker/Dachshund mix who is more bark than bite. She thinks she’s in charge. She’s not.

This shows the back left corner, where the plan is for a Chinese Elm to arch over a two-seat swing. The other back corner (not pictured) will have a park bench under another Chinese Elm. Or maybe it will be the other way around. TMBWitW is in charge of furniture placement. We’ll see where what ends up where. Notice Mackenzie inspecting my work.

Third: Have a great week!

Gun Control

November 21st, 2007 . by Cary

I know it’s Tuesday evening, but since TMBWitW is working from home and therefore tying up the computer all day tomorrow, here is my Wednesday entry. And, of course, since I firmly believe in the second amendment, and since the Supreme Court is considering a second amendment case right now, this seemed appropriate.

Shamelessly lifted from TexasFred’s:

Regarding Gun Control… An Op/Ed…

Gun Control, I have posted this before but in my opinion it’s worth re-posting every so often…

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated
——————————
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
——————————
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million ‘educated’ people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
—————————–
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
——————————
It has now been many months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

List of 7 items:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won’t see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it’s too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are ‘citizens’.
Without them, we are ’subjects’.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!

If you value your freedom, Please spread this anti-gun control message to all of your friends and post it on your sites…

Thanks, Fred, for letting me “borrow” this. I promise to return it in the same shape it was in, except maybe a little more read. And remember – “gun control” means hitting what you are aiming at.

Campaigning

October 3rd, 2007 . by Cary

I have been very seriously thinking about my bid to be written in as President of the United States. While I have made it very clear that the main thrust of my campaign is to let the Career Politicians in Washington know that We the People are sick and tired of the games they play, in word and deed, the reality is that campaigning for a political office is about one thing, and one thing only: How Much Money Can I Raise?

Being elected is more a case of being able to raise funds. What fund raising has to do with leading a country, I don’t think I will ever really grasp, but there you have it. Fund raising bothers me on several levels. First, is the begging involved. Or, actually, the salesmanship. And, by salesmanship, I mean “baldfaced lying to people with lots of dollars and no sense.” Second is the disposal of the left over funds.

Of course, to run a national, touring campaign, you need money. If you have an election staff, they all expect to be paid. Very well. Except the volunteers, who are convinced that they are needed and they need to work for free. Can you imagine a multi-million dollar corporation asking it’s workers to donate their time and own money to make the owners successful? Yes, I have asked for volunteers, but everyone, including myself, would be volunteering. No one is paid, since there is no fund raising.

Whether successful or not, any left over campaign money is the candidate’s to dispose of as they wish. Yes, that means that a successful fund-raiser who is not elected and does not spend all the funds raised, could pocket all the left over money.

This means that, if not nominated, the second place candidate in a party could wind up with millions of dollars to line his or her pocket.

Maybe I’m approaching the campaign from the wrong angle. Instead of wanting to serve my country, with leadership that does not owe it’s existence to any special interest group, I should instead be running a fund-raising campaign with the knowledge that I cannot be elected, and retire on the proceeds from my donors.

I could be rich! I could do all the things I want to, without having to work another day in my life! And to think, all that money would be tax free!

And, of course, I would then lose all the respect that I believe I have built up in the on-line community, in my family, and in my circle of friends. Worst of all, I wouldn’t be able to shave ever again, because I would not be able to look at the guy in the mirror.

Where would be the motivation to serve as President simply to serve the country? Heck, running for President has served some families very well. I can think of a certain Senator from Massachusetts that has ridden on the coat tails of his dead brothers for many many years now. Do you realize that by the time January 2009 rolls around, we will have had 24 years of Bush and Clinton? That means that people under the age of 26 have no cognitive memory of any other President. Can you imagine another eight years of Clinton? Yeah, there’s a military/financial package this country can’t survive.

I started writing this fully intending to announce that I was not going to run anymore. I have just finished convincing myself that I do, indeed, need to continue to run, unless a truly independent candidate, who is not a Career Politician, can make a run. Help me spread the word, will you?

I Heard This, Can’t Remember Who Said It

October 3rd, 2007 . by Cary

“Having reverence for something, and telling others to have reverence for it, is much different from having reverence for something and threatening to kill others for not revering the same thing.”

I heard this on the radio the other day, and cannot for the life of me remember the name of the host. He was talking about the difference between Christians and islamics, especially in regard to the violence connected to the drawings of mohammad as a dog or a pig.

Can anyone help with the name of the speaker?

Wednesday Update

August 29th, 2007 . by Cary

Hello, faithful reader(s)!

Yes, I am still running for President. I need your help, though – if you live in a state, and you believe in what I am doing, please, please, please (i’m begging, here!) consider volunteering your time to be either a member of the electoral college for your state (so I can meet the requirements of that state) or someone who circulates petitions to get my name on the state ballot.

Either one would be very helpful, and I’m not promising a Cabinet level position or anything, but I will do everything I can to recognize everyone’s efforts at the appropriate time. Also – if anyone out there is willing, please chat me up with your local media contacts – have them contact me directly for interviews. (how many “professional” candidates are willing to say that?)

I’m also starting a business, called casework by cary, inc. I do custom wood work, little projects, big projects, custom projects, whatever – as long as it has to do with wood. Yes, it’s an old medium, but I really can’t think of anything better to use to create, enjoy and pass down an heirloom quality piece. Right now I am honing my skills on the wood lathe, with a “Memory Stick” – a profile of a loved one cut into a candlestick holder. It’s difficult to describe, so when I have one perfected I will post pictures.

I’m also spending a lot of quality time with my “campaign manager,” MEG. Those of you who were paying attention a couple of times know her real name; her mother, The Most Beautiful Woman in the World, has requested that I remove mention of her given name for privacy’s sake. TMBWitW says that enough attention will be given to us when I am elected – or even before, with newspaper, radio, and television interviews. Honestly, I think I have a voice for TV and a face for radio. Keep that in mind when you suggest interviews…

I’m also putting on the big push, getting through the narrative portion of “The Wisconsin Cartters” over here. I just put up chapter fourteen – go check it out!

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, support Warriors for Innocence, and write in Cary Cartter for President in 2008!
