Happy Father’s Day

June 19th, 2011 . by Cary

This will mark the eighteenth Father’s Day without my father. My Dad.

Dad passed away the morning of their 42nd wedding anniversary. Blood clot from his leg jammed his heart.

I was living in California then, on the Central Coast. It took me thirteen hours, not counting a five hour nap on Lea Ann’s sofa, to get to Tucson.

The last time I had talked to him, I was trying to convince him and Mom to have breakfast before they drove home, about three months prior. I finally convinced him. I think Mom knew that I had had a premonition that this would be my last chance to sit and talk with him face to face. She helped me convince Dad to have breakfast. Dad never believed that I sometimes could “see” things coming.

This will mark the fourth year of celebrating Father’s Day with MEG, and I’m not with her this day. Even now, as I am typing this early Saturday morning, I am already missing her.

There is a young lady and her husband in Idaho who call me Dad; she has called me that since she could talk. I first met her when she was six months old. Now, her second daughter is almost six months old. That young lady knew my Dad as Grandpa; something my daughter will never know, someone I wish TMBWitW could have met. He would have liked her.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. And remember, even if your Dad is no longer here, your Heavenly Father will always be with you.

Good News/Bad News

June 18th, 2011 . by Cary

Good News: I can get the starter out of the Road Rhino in twenty minutes.

Bad News: I’ve taken the starter out so often that I can do it in twenty minutes.

At first, I thought it was just a hot start problem. Then, after the Rhino had been sitting for over an hour and it still wouldn’t start, I knew there was a problem. So, I asked the guy who had gotten the starter for me if he still had the receipt. I got out from under the Rhino by 2320 hours, and after cleaning up, here I sit. I’m supposed to be leaving for the ASTRA Convention in a few hours. Now, I’m very wound up/exhausted. Yeah, doesn’t sound like a good sleep combination to me.

Follow me on Twitter and I’ll keep you up to date this week – no blogging, and after the timed-release Father’s Day post, nothing new until I get back. So, both of you regular readers, don’t lose heart. I’ will be back.

Now He’s Worried

June 8th, 2011 . by Cary

Re-election season is upon him, so now he’s going to take a look at all the hullabaloo that these peons he’s supposed to be representing are worried about:

Obama expresses concern about slowing economy*

From the article:

“…our task is to not panic.”

What a good frood he is.

June 6 – Historically Speaking

June 6th, 2011 . by Cary

1918 – Gunnery Sgt. Dan Daly (USMC) led the 5th Marines in the charge on Belleau Wood. For this action, the French awarded the 5th Marines the Fourragere:

1928 – the day before my mother was born in West Allis, Wisconsin. She would go on to marry a Marine, give birth to seven children, bury her husband and her third daughter, and then slip from us at the tender age of 81 1/2.

1944 – D-Day – Allied troops storm ashore at Normandy, on the French Coast, to begin the sweep to remove Hitler and his allies from the continent. The beginning of the end, as it were, of World War II.

What has happened in your history?

Awkwardness

June 5th, 2011 . by Cary

I have been … asked … to not talk about a certain person on my blog. However, in order to get the word out, once in a while I do have to talk about her, and I refer to her as TMBWitW. That has not always resulted in positive reviews, so I have made attempts to not talk about her at all. I love her more than anything, and she is the center of my life, so that’s like talking about everything BUT the monkey juggling on your head at the party.

Memorial Day, she was saying that her wrist hurt, so we iced it. Tuesday morning when she woke up it was worse, and by the end of the day she was in Urgent Care getting an X-ray, shot, and meds prescribed. (i am not going to try to spell the issues here. laymen’s terms are trigger finger and tennis elbow. please leave any jokes about target practice, tennis courts, firearms training, etc. in the comments section below.)

When she finally got home Tuesday evening, it was late, and everyone just went to bed. Wednesday she stayed home, since the meds were affecting her in a way that made her feel it was not safe to drive. Thursday she went to work, but came home early. Friday she made it through the whole day of work. Saturday evening, after I got home, she asked why I hadn’t mentioned her in the Long Week entry.

Please keep her in your prayers, specifically for healing of her right arm.
