Saturday Night Cab Story

May 26th, 2009 . by Cary

Had an interesting time on Saturday night. Got a call to pick up passengers at a central Phoenix gaybar (won’t advertise for it. won’t even tell you what it rhymes with.). I had no sooner pulled onto Camelback than the two guys in the back seat started making out.

Besides my personal beliefs about this type of behavior, this was two guys. Eww.

I pulled over to the curb and told them they had two choices – knock off the tonsil hockey or get out.

“You wouldn’t say that if we were a guy and a girl,” said the less bright of the two.

“A guy and a girl are a normal and non-abominational relationship. Your choices just became one. Get out of my cab.”

“You can’t do that! We hired you to take us hooooome!” said the second, and now re-evaluated as the less bright of the two.

I got out, got around to the curbside door, yanked it open, and was reaching for the first one when they agreed to get out under their own power. “You can’t do this! This is discriminatory practice!”

“This is my car. I set the rules. Go away.”

I am thinking I need to add a “no gays” note on my account at the cab company. It would keep this from happening in the first place.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 21st, 2009 . by Cary

Long May She Wave

On this Memorial Day Weekend, remember it’s not the races, the barbecues, the picnics, the sales, or anything that we as civilians do that makes this weekend what it is.

It is the sacrifice made by those who are no longer with us that makes this, and every, Memorial Day a weekend that we celebrate and remember.

Those of you I have blog-friended and have served, thank you for your service.

To those who have given everything, thanks are not enough.

We owe you the courtesy of continuing to make sure that this country is worth fighting for.

PS – BZ, a big thank you. You know what for. Hint is at the top.

Ouch.

I thought I would feel better after some sleep.

I was wrong. I feel really bad today, and I am pretty sure it’s because I over-taxed myself in the sun yesterday.

Some lessons are never learned.

Late Monday

May 18th, 2009 . by Cary

I am currently as red as a lobster. I worked outside today, building the ramada for the church fellowship area. I didn’t take pictures yet, so that will have to wait, but we got it up and in 107° weather to boot.

Before I went over to the church this morning, I participated in one of my “thought filled” exercises. There are two – shaving, with my straight razor (when I have the time) and picking up dog doo. I have the stubble to prove it wasn’t the first one.

Now, I am hot, tired, and my body hurts. I’m going to bed.

Thursday? Round Up?

May 14th, 2009 . by Cary

Well, maybe. We’ll see.

First, a very specific request for prayer. I submitted my resume for a project manager position, and would really appreciate everyone’s prayers/well wishes/best-of-lucks in being considered for the position. Thank you.

Second, the other day I mentioned the “Pedophile Protection Act” and today in Chuck Norris’ column he mentioned a site to go to to show your opposition to it. That web site is on CitizenLink and I would appreciate it if you would take the time to hop over there and add your opinion.

Third, there is a young man who has submitted artwork for a Google contest. He needs your vote – can you help him out? His name is Jadon Mann. According to the information e-mail I received from my sister, LC, he:

is a top 40 finalist out of 28,000 entrants in the Doodle for Google contest! He has already won a trip to New York City and now has a chance to get to the finals, where he could win an Apple laptop and if he makes it all the way, he gets a $15000 scholarship for college and $25000 for his school! He needs your vote – go to http://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html and vote for his drawing in the grade 7-9 tab, he’s Region 8 and his drawing is for clean energy.

I have some “final” pictures of the new “gameroom” at the church:
