So – The O Word on BlogTalkRadio started out with no chat but that fixed eventually and the show went on. Loon, AnnieB, prying1, Reverend Don, kershaw and sumahe joined us on the phone and in the chat room. What did we talk about? It might be easier to list what we DIDN’T talk about! Happy Thanksgiving (next week!) – Christmas Cards for HeroesCPT Rob Yllescas – Dryer Fun – Adopt-A-Military-FamilyVictory in Iraq Day – T-Mobile – Samantha West – Arizona’s Governor Napolitano to be Homeland Security Cabinet Member – The Messiah at Grace Presbyterian Church on Nicholas Road in Temeculah 12/07/2008 @ 1600 hours – and much more hilarity than should be allowed. Ever. No, really.

(Also, the host of the show is exposed as a technological weenie when he can’t figure out it’s his own web site that is providing the audio loop that is driving him nuts.)

Thank You, Veterans

November 11th, 2008 . by Cary

To all the veterans who stop by – thank you for your service.

To all my blogging buddies (I’m not going to list you, because I will invariably forget someone who served) who are veterans – thank you for your service.

Please take a moment and visit the blog of Captain Rob Yllescas, who happens to be one of the most recent recipients of the Purple Heart. President Bush awarded this medal to this hero. CPT Yllescas’ wife, Dena, described the event as “a completely bittersweet moment.” She is very proud of her husband, and his service, but still, she said “Although this award is an honor, it’s one I wish my husband NEVER had to receive.” President Bush was truly moved, and if you read the entry for November 10, 2008 you will see how this President showed his class.

I had a good weekend – drove cab both nights, and with the Coyotes playing, NASCAR in town for the weekend, and various concerts and whatnot going on, there were a lot of responsible people calling cabs instead of trying to drive themselves. Saturday evening I had the honor of picking up three of NASCAR’s special armed forces guests – three Sergeant Majors of the Army – and taking them to Westgate for some local color. Of course, they received a military discount, and my heartfelt thanks for their service.

Saturday morning, I had breakfast with Gawfer (a Navy vet, by the way) at Wild Horse Pass – he was in town for a vendor weekend and was forced to stay at a resort and play two rounds of golf on the Wild Horse courses. Poor guy. Good seeing you, Gawfer. If my conversation was a little spotty, remember that I had just come off a twelve hour cab shift…

Are YOU wearing red?

Good show today on The O Word. Topics covered include Army CPT Rob Yllescas, Bloviating Zeppelin’s Father, machosauceproductions, the 233rd Marine Corps Birthday, Veteran’s Day, Obama’s Cabinet choices (hint – no change), and the Character Assassination of Sarah Palin. prying1 called in. AnnieB and Gawfer joined us in the chatroom. Technical difficulties caused a brief break, so hang tight around six and a half minutes in.

Have a good weekend!

Army CPT Rob Yllescas

November 4th, 2008 . by Cary

First things first – I certainly hope that you have, or are going to, exercise your RIGHT and your RESPONSIBILITY to VOTE. Too many have volunteered to allow your voice to be heard. Many who volunteered made the Supreme Sacrifice. Do Not Waste Their Lives.

On that subject: Army CPT Rob Yllescas’ family has taken the time and energy to publish a blog about their warrior. CPT Yllescas was wounded by an IED in Afghanistan. The long and short of it is he is now a double amputee and his family will be with him while he heals.

I am asking those of you who do so to pray for the family of this soldier. I know, there are soldiers every day who are wounded, and they all need prayer.

I pray for them everyday. However, it’s not too often you run across a blog about them, and when you know the recipient of the prayer by name, it becomes a more personal battle.

To the Yllescas family: Thank you for sharing the news.

To CPT Yllescas: Thank you for your service, sir.

“Peace” Protestors?

April 25th, 2008 . by Cary

So much for liberals believing violence doesn’t solve anything:

H/T to Gawfer, who shares this news. Warning – offensive language. (at least, it’s offensive to ME when a “peace” activist attacks a war veteran AND HIS FAMILY)
