Learning Something New Red Friday

Good news – visited the Doctor for a follow up (of course, I was wearing a red shirt!) and learned a few things. 1. – Derangement Meniscus can’t really be diagnosed without an MRI or similar scan. That was an educated guess on the part of the Urgent Care practitioner. 2. – from the position I was in, I couldn’t have damaged the Meniscus since the weight was on the patella, and not on the meniscus. (2.5 – meniscus is kinda funny to spell) 3. – chances are I’ve merely popped the patella ligament out of and back into place – a painful process, and fraught with all kinds of pain, but again I heard that icing it was the right thing to do.

I want everyone to know that TMBWitW is the one who convinced me to ice it in the first place. I was just gonna pop some Tylenol for the pain and keep on keepin’ on. Marines are like that. TMBWitW says Marines are stubborn and less than helpful when they themselves are the ones who are hurt. I’ll let you know if I find any evidence to refute that statement.

So – prognosis is good. If I don’t show improvement in the next two to three weeks, while continuing with the elevation/ice/no weight pressure and adding in the occasional flexing routine, then Doc will be bringing in a specialist and tossing me to the MRI wolves. If surgery is called for, we would know then. At this point in time I refuse to believe that I am going under the knife. I know that I will heal or be healed and things will be back to normal before the Christmas and Hanukkah seasons are upon us at the toy store.

Thanks to all who have been praying for me. I am positive that it helped.

California Friday

So – barring any unforeseen disasters – like, say, a power outage the size of San Diego for crying out loud – we (TMBWitW, MEG, MEG’s sister-cousin, and I) are headed for Legoland. I will be off the information superhighway interweb thingy for a couple days – ya’ll behave.

I don’t want to come back and find out that Obama(THHO) has declared that an unforeseen power emergency has created or saved several hundred thousand jobs …

Sometimes, It Happens

September 8th, 2011 . by Cary

I arranged for two days of vacation this week – tomorrow and Saturday. I have tickets for the family for Legoland. The plan? Drive to Carlsbad, spend time at Legoland, spend the night at a hotel near Calrsbad, and drive home Saturday.

Then, somebody in Yuma triggered an “event” on the power grid.

That event triggered a blackout covering San Diego and the surrounding area.

That blackout strained the San Onofre nuclear plant, causing it to shut down, and powering down the area a bit north of San Diego.

The one little item that haunts me right now is that I passed on the $8.00 “just in case” insurance for the hotel (prepaid! on hotwire!) in case something happened and we were not able to use the hotel for the night we paid for …

Called my friend Doug over in that area. He called the Denny’s in Carlsbad – they never answered the phone. Not a good sign.

SomeOne has a very finely tuned Sense of Humor.

… sigh …

Weather

July 7th, 2011 . by Cary

Somtimes, in the early part of monsoon season here in the Phoenix area, if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute. It’ll change.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of the gigantor dust storm that hit us Tuesday evening – 50+ miles wide, over a mile high in spots – well, with that came a little bit of relief from the heat. We haven’t been over 110 since then, and this morning it’s downright chilly – the thermometer on my back porch says 87 right now – almost enough to make me put a sweater on![sarc=OFF]

At any rate, a little busy this morning – off to pick up a box of bags for the store, and then to Discount Tire to get a slow leak fixed on the Camry’s right front tire.

Yesterday, TMBWitW went in for an MRI of her wrist – she is seeing a specialist today to decipher the image – and since she had gone through an MRI before, with a particularly nasty set of migraines, she asked our regular doctor for a mild sedative so she could make it though the enclosed machine (an open machine would not have given the detailed image needed). She took both tabs, and fell asleep in the waiting area. And the prep area. And the Xray area, where the contrast dye was inserted. And in the wheelchair waiting to get into the MRI. And, of course, in the MRI itself, in the wheelchari on the way to the car, on the way home, and after I managed to get her into bed. She woke up for a bit after I came home from church, to eat a sandwich and drink a little soda, but she’s been asleep since then. Next time, she’s only taking one of the tabs.

Gotta book – things are starting to open up around here. Hope you have a great Thursday!

Awkwardness

June 5th, 2011 . by Cary

I have been … asked … to not talk about a certain person on my blog. However, in order to get the word out, once in a while I do have to talk about her, and I refer to her as TMBWitW. That has not always resulted in positive reviews, so I have made attempts to not talk about her at all. I love her more than anything, and she is the center of my life, so that’s like talking about everything BUT the monkey juggling on your head at the party.

Memorial Day, she was saying that her wrist hurt, so we iced it. Tuesday morning when she woke up it was worse, and by the end of the day she was in Urgent Care getting an X-ray, shot, and meds prescribed. (i am not going to try to spell the issues here. laymen’s terms are trigger finger and tennis elbow. please leave any jokes about target practice, tennis courts, firearms training, etc. in the comments section below.)

When she finally got home Tuesday evening, it was late, and everyone just went to bed. Wednesday she stayed home, since the meds were affecting her in a way that made her feel it was not safe to drive. Thursday she went to work, but came home early. Friday she made it through the whole day of work. Saturday evening, after I got home, she asked why I hadn’t mentioned her in the Long Week entry.

Please keep her in your prayers, specifically for healing of her right arm.
