Thinking of Moving

December 28th, 2006 . by Cary

I’m considering moving over to a different platform – because of this.

I am currently wrestling with WordPress.com, which is free, which is a problem – I can’t make the changes to the template that I can here. Specifically, I would lose the eagle in the background, and the blogrolls would disappear.

WordPress.com has a blogrolling feature, but you have to manually enter each blgo you want to roll – and in the case of other people’s blogrolls (such as Texas Fred’s, and Ika’s Roll) you can’t, as far as I have been able to tell, get them to appear in your sidebar. Security reasons, they say – force you to pay for hosting and using WordPress.org, I say.

Another big stumbling block is the fact that you cannot import your “new and improved” blogspot blog to WordPress.com. That means I would have to manually move each post over, and I would lose all the comments.

Ah, well – back to searching for the answer.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, support the Freedom Project and get in on the Baby Pool!

It would be the ultimate kick in the behind to blogger if we all could find something else and just up and leave them. But we haven’t found it yet. I’m hoping we do. I’m fed up with this, as you can see over there at WFI. Thanks Cary.

I have a feeling that no matter where you go (unless it is a mom and pop pay operation) this same stuff will be there.

What might be best is to forward the URL’s to some trusted friends and have them all forward them to the FBI.

One option is to not display the “blogger nav bar.” That would eliminate the risk of one of your readers navigating to one of those creepy blogs from yours. Other than that, it’s a long inconvenient process to move everything I’m thinking.

If you want the HTML code to hide the navbar, just let me know.

I have had a couple of conversations with a notable blogger who uses Squarespace.com.

She pays $144 a year for the ‘full Monty’ but there are less expensive versions available. She does have some rolls up and even one with the scroll box.

    Take a look.
    I’m leaning this way myself.

Well bro, I made the switch. I kept my old blog up and it will remain up for a while, I use for testing.

WordPress is the way to go but you need to buy the domain name and host it yourself.

A little more tough to set up but easier and better to use.

Yeah, Bushy – looks like I’ll have to bite the bullet and pay for a host.

I’ll see if I can slip that in while the accountant is busy with other things…
