Does This Make Me A Winner?

August 26th, 2010 . by Cary

Here in the Valley of the Sun, we have a problem with lead acid batteries. They can’t stand the heat. Normally speaking, if you can get two summer cycles out of a battery, you are doing pretty well. Three summers, and you are in rare air. Which is why, as I was checking the receipt associated with my freshly dead battery yesterday morning, I was shocked – shocked – to discover that my battery has actually lasted four years and two months. which means, technically, that it lasted through most of five summers. (purchased 6/25/06, summer of 07, 08, 09, and most of 10).

Of course, it was at the most inconvenient time. I had just finished unloading some children’s furniture from the QX4 into the back of babystop and there was a UPS truck and trailer there waiting to get into the loading slot.

Turned the key – nothing.

I knew it was on it’s last legs – the starter had not been spinning with the usual verve and energy – but I was hoping to get to another payday before I had to replace it.

My boss is way very cool, however – she handed me her business expense credit card, and told me to use that – very cool, boss. You were my favorite boss of all time already (including that slave driver I worked for before I started at kidstop) and this just really cemented it.

So – the count is on. How long will this one last?

MidWeek Rest Stop

August 25th, 2010 . by Cary

Short day at work today – get off around five, head for bible study, and fellowship! And, of course, work on the bass skills that I’ve been neglecting lately. I really need to get back to playing more than once a week!

Wow – I guess that stock photo kinda doesn’t do it justice. I’ll have to take a picture of the one I own!

Arizona Primary Day

August 24th, 2010 . by Cary

So – sure hope you’ve got your vote on!

Since I’m registered as “No Party Affiliation” I have to go to a polling place this morning and request a ballot for a particular party. Except Democrat – they don’t want any non-Dems voting in their primary. Since I have to leave earlier, this kinda throws off the whole “routine” thing I was working on!

Now, get out there and VOTE! Or, if you don’t, then just be quiet about the direction the country is taking. The adults will try to get this sovereign nation, these United States, back on the right track.

Routine! Ain’t It Grand?

August 23rd, 2010 . by Cary

I’m trying to get the timing down for this. If I can carve out fifteen minutes and actually get into writing that which I have been rolling around in my head since the last time I wrote, I should be able to get about a post a day up. It’s not going to be as hard hitting or heavy as, say, a Bloviating Zeppelin or a TexasFred, but really, why try to play in a league you are not qualified to be in? I may have been able to develop in that direction, but I have gotten into this career position and I am quite happy to be managing a toy store. Of course, that chews most of what used to be my blogging time, so I don’t do the in-depth stuff anymore.

That’s not to say I don’t have strong, Christian, conservative thoughts and beliefs anymore. Au contraire – being upper level (i answer to the owner. and her dog.) any subject that affects how an independent business’s bottom line appears, is of very high importance to me.

However, my “routine” consists of making sure the store is stocked; personnel are scheduled; customers are happy as they leave this little corner of heaven on earth; and, or course, to make sure I do all this with the lowest possible outgo in comparison to the income.

Sure beats tar out of not knowing whether or not a wood contract would be forthcoming, or if you were going to receive payment for a contract!

Let’s face it – when a customer comes in, and greets me (after i welcome them) by saying “How are you doing?” I can honestly say “I’m doing great – I work in a Toy Store!”
