Did YOU FORGET?

September 14th, 2009 . by Cary

Out of 2,996 names, only 1,211 (as of this writing) had tributes written for them. Did you forget to remember the souls lost on September 11, 2001? Out of the 1,211 tributes, many (far too many) had the same author – in other words, one blogger took on more than one victim.

I wrote three new tributes, and re-ran the original – assigned back when you had to sit on a waiting list to see if a name was available for you to write a tribute. This year, many, many people who lost their lives in the Towers, at the Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania were FORGOTTEN.

NEVER FORGET

(in case you haven’t picked up on it, I’m pissed. I’m pissed at all the bloggers out there who couldn’t take the time to remember the ones lost that day. If I have pricked your conscious, if you feel guilty for not remembering, then this post has done it’s job. Because if you are feeling guilty, then I am pissed at YOU. Go to Project 2,996 and sign up – better late than never – but I warn you, next year there better be a waiting list again.)

I’m sorry, I had no idea this project existed.

I really didn’t know what it was about…that is I didn’t realize we were supposed to do something.

Well Cary, WE did our thing, and we notified many others, but, they didn’t know, didn’t understand, didn’t care, whatever…

But in all fairness, I had a guy tell me this AM, he had tried to get a name, and 2996 never got back to him, and you know I had a problem with that too, took em until 3 days before 9-11 to respond…

BZ and Joe, you BOTH put up 9-11 posts, a remembrance of your own, that is a hell of a lot more than some bloggers did… The 2996 is a personal thing, I have been a part of it since it’s inception, but you guys DID do something, many didn’t even scratch their heads…

Sorry, I’m not gonna list a tribute to an individual.
    2,996 people…
    All innocent.
All died, almost simultaneously on that day.
None of them should be shown to be in any way more than the others by publishing a “tribute”.
The least of them was more valuable than some fundamentalist Islamic vermin.
I’m pissed because we lost EVEN ONE of them.
Let’s get the job of exterminating those that perpetrated this horror done.
Thanks Cary, for doing what you did. It was right for you.
    Not for me.

    Did I over-react? Perhaps.

Yes, GB, this is the way I won’t let myself forget. Fred and a host of others joined me in Project 2996, and Fred, you are right, perhaps the issues he was having slowed them down quite a bit, but still. Greybeard, Joe, BZ, others, have different ways of not forgetting. This post was aimed at those who DID NOT remember in any way, shape, or form.

greybeard, I respect your viewpoint, and I will always respect you. No worries there. Don’t consider this post aimed at you.

Joe, BZ, I respect both of you, also. Please do not think for a minute that this was aimed at you, either.

The crux of the situation is, the morning paper here in AZ carried a front page story of how the schools were “not remembering” 9/11 by not making a point of reminding the students what 9/11 is – Patriot Day – or anything like that. This is the same paper that “encouraged” it’s readers to participate in Obummer’s “day of Service” on 9/11, though.

My pissy attitude was lit by those two factors, and the lack of remembering in the blogosphere just kinda capped me off. I’m better now, and moving forward. I hope you can all forgive my transgression and move forward also.

I wrote one. I am surprised all of the names weren’t taken. Wow.

    I didn’t feel aimed at…just ignorant.

    Which I freely admit.

If ignorance were bliss, I’d be blistered.

    Doug – I agree.

Joe – ignorance can be fixed.

  10. comment number 10 by: TexasFred

Ignorance CAN be fixed… Stupidity is terminal…

I don’t think Cary or I either one were blasting anyone in particular, and I am glad that so many DID post a 9-11 tribute of their own…

What shocked me was, there were many, supposedly Conservative blogs too, that DIDN’T post so much as one word…

There was NO EXCUSE for that…

I too get discouraged, for about a second, when I see the degree to which people have downplayed 9/11. I prefer a simple tribute to the entire group of people that gave it all.

To those that think 9/11 wasn’t a national tragedy: Up yours.

Thanks for the back up, Fred. I appreciate it.

Short, sweet, and to the point. Well said, John.
