Merry Christmas 2012

December 25th, 2012 . by Cary

Good morning! Merry Christmas! The time seems to fly by so quickly, it seems like a few months ago we were doing the same thing … of course, it helps that I’m not in retail this year and I can actually spend time with the family group this year!

As I sit here this morning, listening to the animals with their not-quite-awake noises (who said rabbits are a quiet pet?) and TMBWitW and MEG still sound asleep, I remember when I was a very young boy in a family of seven children. We would be awake and waiting for Mom and Dad to wake up so we could open our presents. Mom and Dad usually accommodated us by getting up when they heard us moving around. By this time of the morning (a little after eight) we would have thrashed the wrapping paper and be gathered around the dining room table eating a huge breakfast.

I sure miss those days, but I also know that they are the basis for who I am. It seems we don’t communicate as often as we should (my sister showed up at the toy store a couple of weeks ago with a plate of cookies for me. i forgot to tell her i wasn’t there any more.) but we still manage to stay in touch for the most part. I think I’m kind of spoiled, in that I use this blog, Twitter, and Facebook to talk to most of my selected family and the blood family that is on those media; I forget that not all my brothers and sisters are on there.

This is also a time of remembering those that are no longer gathering with us – the grandparents, of course – I’m past the half-century mark, and my last grandparent left in the early eighties. Dad passed away in ’93, TMBWitW’s mom passed away on 2006, LeaAnn (the youngest of the sisters) passed away in 2008, and Mom passed away in 2010; there are a lot of people that I have known since then, church family from different churches, that have gone on ahead.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, hold close those you love, let them know how much you love them.

Merry Christmas to my readers – no matter how many or how few, I consider each of you a friend and pray that this season finds you where you need to be.

Chat ya later…
