More Disneyland

September 14th, 2005 . by Cary

One thing I noticed while at the Mouse House last week – people with their very young child(ren).

Now, I am a little more than 21 years old, and I really enjoy going to Disneyland. Granted, I don’t ride all the rides anymore, although I will go on the ones that the girls want to ride, but still. These couples with the very young children seemed to be causing more grief for themselves than memories for the young ones. Especially the “adults” who, on the pretext of making sure the children can see the parade, lightshow, or fireworks, push others out of the way.

Specifically, I’m talking to you, grandma of the poor little girl who was up way past her bedtime – we had been holding our spot for over an hour and when you didn’t feel the child could see, you pushed my wife out of the way so your tired, cranky, didn’t-want-to-be-there little granddaughter could stand on the rail (against the instructions repeated over and over by the cast members in charge of crowd control) and be fussy in front of us instead of behind us.

God teaches us to forgive and turn the other cheek, so we did. You, however, really need to learn some manners and how to use them. I shudder at the example you have set for your children and their children; and at how much of an ordeal you have made of a trip to Disneyland before the little girl was ready to experience and assimilate the memories.

Have I mentioned how much I enjoyed the trip overall? I did, really. I just wish we could do that more often.

Hiya Cary – thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

I can identify with your experience. Recently, my husband and I visited the Sonoran Desert Museum, and we arrived early for a nighttime ‘storytelling’ event so we could have a good view.

Well, we soon realized that arriving early didn’t matter. Many people arrived late, then just pushed their way ahead of others and blocked the view. They brought their young children (many too young to appreciate the event). In particular, one couple walked by us and stopped right in front, blocking our view completely. There was no place to stop, but they did anyway, forcing us to move back. They had their very small children in tow; too young for this event. The father turned and looked directly at us; and I thought once he realized that he and his family had completely blocked our view, he would move. Nope, he turned back and that was that. I was livid at this rudeness.

My husband and I just left in disgust. It’s amazing how many people do not have manners, and treat others like they don’t exist.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed your visit to Disneyland!

Yep, rudeness is a learned trait, handed down from misinformed to misinformed. Really, one of these days, I’m going to forget who I am supposed to be like and give them a piece of my mind. Politely, of course. I’ll stop after the second whacking.

I had a similar experience at Disneyland; I guess that some people don’t get the whole “happiest place on Earth” thing, or they use it to their advantage knowing that their rudeness can be just shrugged off…

    Disheartening, to say the least.
