July 4th, 2007 . by Cary

On this day, I would like to first wish you all a safe and fabulous Fourth of July celebration, remembering all those who have given all in order to secure these continuing liberties.

Deborah, from the North: Thank you. Your note means a lot.

Moving on to current events – the Governor of Arizona, Janet Napolitano, has signed into law a bill that should effectively remove the illegal immigrant from the state of Arizona. At least, the incentive for them to be here will be removed. The bill has built in penalties for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants. No, not monetary – at least, not directly. First offense would result in your business being placed on probation for three years (five, if the hiring was ‘intentional’). Second offense your business license would be revoked. Period.

I’d say that’s pretty tough, wouldn’t you?

Only one problem. The enforcement part.

It really doesn’t matter how “tough” the laws are, if there is no enforcement and, more importantly, punishment, the lawbreakers won’t care. They will continue to break the law.

The only effective law is one that is fairly enforced, and punishment meted out afterward. Currently, the national passport requirements for traveling to Canada, Mexico, or any Carribean vaction spot are not being enforced, because “people weren’t ready” for them I say, tough. There was plenty of warning the rules were going into effect. The lack of punishment can be seen as the root cause for many maladies crippling the country today, mostly at the local level which will spill into the regional levels and beyond. Graffiti is a widespread problem because no one wants to hold their kids responsible for damaging other people’s property. Vandalism follows, with the “broken windows” model following (where there are broken windows or other signs of vandalism, the basic crime rate will rise).

My solution? Well, it’s pretty simple, yet it will be seen as a radical departure from the status quo: Hire enough police officers to have an effective presence in the area. Follow that with actually prosecuting and punishing those caught breaking the law. Overcrowded prisons? Just another incentive to not break the law. Once the perception is changed to actual punishment of the criminals, instead of coddling, the number of crimes and criminals will be reduced. Heck, even if the only thing the additional officers do is patrol the streets and write speeding tickets, overall the roads will become safer when the speeders slow down and the minor traffic infractions are not occurring as often as they are now.

Back to the illegal immigrant law: There is talk of a large exodus of the illegals, since they won’t be able to find work. Boo-freakin’hoo. I look at this as a positive. Number one, the traffic was much lighter, and there were fewer accidents, on the days of the illegal immigrant rallies. Number two, once the cheap labor is gone, the market will do a rapid self correction and people will be able to get a decent wage once again. Number three, the entry level positions that the illegals love to hang on to forever will be freed up for high-school students to once again use as a stepping stone to the workforce.

On a personal note, the neighborhood will be safer to walk in at night. Right now, the large groups sharing the single family homes are causing enough traffic and trash to make anyone feel uncomfortable outside their own home.

Well, I’ve prattled on long enough. Time to update the on-line numbers and then catch some sleep before the festivities of the day begin.

Please be safe. Don’t drink and drive. If you must drink, do so responsibly. Remember that alcohol and gunpowder don’t mix. Well, they do, but with usually disastrous results.

LiveJournal – Six Apart Delete Hundreds of Pedophile Sites

May 30th, 2007 . by Cary

from Warriors For Innocence:

LiveJournal Says No to Pedophiles:

Setting a new precedent, LiveJournal, owned by Six Apart Incorporated, deleted over 500 of its sites or journals today. Responding to requests from Warriors For Innocence, LiveJournal chose to remove sites that promote pedophilia, child sex, child abuse, and other illegal activities.

LiveJournal has revised their Terms Of Service (TOS) to include new standards that will ensure that they protect the safety and well-being of everyone who visits LiveJournal.

As pedophiles and their sympathizers scramble to find new hosting options, we will be following them and contacting each web host in order to work to enforce a TOS that will ensure that these hosts maintain a responsible and respectable reputation.

LiveJournal and Six Apart have taken a very important step. They chose to maintain accountability for the content placed on their sites. By setting this precedent, they have opened the door for other web hosting companies like Blogger/Google, Blog.com, Xanga, WordPress, and others to follow in their footsteps.

Special thanks go out to Scott Kraft, the Executive Vice President of Marketing for Six Apart, and Denise Paolucci, the Manager of Customer Service for LiveJournal. They have both been very helpful.

Tony Snow Thinks Bloggers are "Hateful"

February 21st, 2007 . by Cary

Texas Fred has an interesting story on his outpost of truth today…

You can check it out here.

Tell Fred that I sent you over.

This will be a nice opportunity to segue into another campaign post, won’t it?

I do not like Political Correctness. I do not like it, Sam I Am. PC has brought us such terms as “Visually Challenged” – heck, I’m visually challenged – without my glasses or contacts, I can’t see more than eight inches in front of my face. People who cannot see at all are – say it with me – blind.

Assigning a label to a condition is another way of discriminating against someone, while pretending to be nice about it. Calling someone “Developmentally Disabled” doesn’t change the fact that they have trouble doing everyday things, like tying their own shoes, combing their hair, or brushing their teeth. All it does is allow someone to ask for more money to “help” them.

I need a press secretary who would have sat in that meeting and said “Boys, like it or not, the bloggers are presenting the facts without pretense of a liberal or conservative slant. The right leaners will present their version, and the left leaners will present their version. America, as a whole, will read what is out there and come to an educated opinion. If the mainstream media cannot or will not either present the whole story without a bias, or at the very least admit their bias, the American Public is going to tell you to take a walk. Get your collective acts together.”

We, the People, need leadership in the Capitol who will hold people responsible for their actions. We also need leadership who will, in turn, be responsible for their own actions.

Please, help me out here. Get my name out there as a write-in candidate for President of the United States. No, I don’t stand a chance to get elected. But, if enough people are creating enough buzz about a “common Joe” that wants to show the Career Politicians that they need to shape up, then maybe, just maybe, they’ll get the message. If enough Career Politicians are not re-elected, no matter what party they represent (because let’s face it, they certainly don’t represent the American People any more, do they?) then the message will start getting out there that We the People are serious about taking our country back from the players and running it like it should be.

Slow Posting

February 7th, 2007 . by Cary

Sorry I haven’t been keeping everyone up to date – so here’s a bit of a catch-up post.

Saturday – TMBWitW, MEG, and I attended Glendale Chocolate Affaire, first to look around a bit, and second to do some preliminary name dropping. Two things became quickly clear – I needed to have a small business card to hand out to people, or they would never remember me, and second, the hopes I had for starting a Chocoholics Anonymous were dashed, for the simple reason that nobody wanted to quit.

Sunday – normal stuff here, went to church Sunday evening, then back home to wait out MEG falling asleep on her schedule…

Monday I got to talk to Jenn and Dave on My Point BlogRadio. Fun and hilarity ensued.

Since then, I’ve been job searching. And job searching. And job searching. No wonder I haven’t been posting!

This afternoon I got started on the pulpit for the new church, since the foundation was poured this week. Figured I might as well have that ready to go when the new church building opens.

Thanks for allowing me to indulge in some minor catching up.

Thus Starts The Campaign

January 17th, 2007 . by Cary

Well.

According to the FEC, once I declare myself a candidate for the office of President of the United States, I have to start tracking my expenditures. Once I reach $5,000.00 (USD) I have to start filing reports.

Guess what?

I’m not spending a dime.

And I don’t want anyone to spend a dime on my behalf, either.

I do want you to help me spread the word. My name will not appear on the primary or main election ballot unless it is written in. They all need to be written in exactly the same way: “Cary Cartter” (without the quotes).

If you are the author of a “free” blog, then please blog about me, tell everyone you know about me, and help me get the word out. If you pay for any aspect of your blog, then don’t blog about me – just tell everyone you meet to write me in.

But, Cary, aren’t you serious about running for President?

Yes, I am. But I am a working stiff, like 80% of the people in this nation. I can’t afford to spend millions of dollars on a campaign, since I have no funds of my own and I am not going to be indebted to any special interests. I intend to get this country back on track to being the leader of the free world, and I can’t do that if I have to give homage to Joe’s Bar and Grill every time I speak or consider legislation.

What do you really think your chances are?

A little better than a snowball’s in hell. If I even get enough mentions and a few papers report on the “crazy dude in Phoenix”, maybe I can get a politician to understand that We, the People, are fed up with the constant crap. Repesentatives should not be career politicians, they should serve the country out of duty and then go home. They should not be spending fifty+ years in the same seat handing sweetheart pork deals to the same network of good ol’ boys. They should serve, do what’s right for all the people, and step down. (Yes, I advocate term limits.) Someone like Strom Thurmond should never be allowed to rule for as long as he did. Common Sense should prevail, not Political Correctness.

If you have any questions about why I am doing this, or what my intentions are, just drop a line in the comments, or e-mail me: carycartter AT gmail DOT com. I will answer all inquiries here, and your question will be quoted. You will also be credited, and a link will be provided.
