No Casualties In Massive Civil Disobedience

December 31st, 2015 . by Cary

Ever since Sunday evening, December 27th, there was a massive civil disobedience happening in Southern California. The body count was in the zeros, and many laws were broken – on purpose! – in order to prove a point.

From all non-reports, a mentally stable, white, male, Christian was in the area of San Diego for more than four days, blatantly breaking all sorts of California gun control laws, including transporting a loaded “assault weapon” (semi-automatic large caliber pistol) on state and federal highways in the state of California, possessing a loaded “assault weapon” without permission from the state of California, having a “high capacity” magazine in said “assault weapon”, having more than ten rounds in said “high capacity” magazine in said “assault weapon”, and having a round chambered in said “assault weapon” the entire time this was happening. Reports indicate that the mentally stable, white, male, Christian was in several venues where a great deal of harm could have been committed, if the mentally stable, white, male, Christian were so inclined; those locations including several museums, open air plazas, and the San Diego Zoo.

A source close to the mentally stable, white, male, Christian says that the perpetrator, who is allowed in his home state to act in this manner without any type of restriction or license, acted no differently than he did at home; the source has said “It was if he just ignored all the hoopla and had the audacity to act as though he had the God-given right to protect himself and those around him.” (editor’s emphasis)

No passer-by noticed he was armed, no police officers were called, and no violence was reported.

The point of all this? It’s only when someone is bent on terrorizing others that the issues of weapon choice, size, capacity, and actions are seen as “bad” – because as soon as the mentally stable, white, male, Christian crossed the Colorado River traveling west bound the laws considered him to be acting in a felonious manner; likewise, as soon as the Colorado was crossed in an east bound direction he was acting within the laws of the land.

Merry Christmas 2013

December 25th, 2013 . by Cary

So – ya’ll know about or are aware of the stereotype where the kid(s) wake up the parents at ohdarkthirty to start the unwrapping of Christmas gifts? And how every year, the hapless parents warn and cajole the kid(s) to stay in bed a little longer, and let the parents get a little more sleep?

Yeah – not in this house. The Most Beautiful Woman in the World and I are chronically sleep deprived, it seems. Never can get enough sleep. I usually get up around 0430 to get dressed and go to work; that time includes feeding the dogs – a habit they can’t seem to break on the days when I don’t need to be up that early. TMBWitW gets up at 0600 to start her day, to include wrestling our daughter, MEG, out of bed and into school clothes. Seems MEG has picked up a mix of our traits – she loves to read late into the nights (which I did as a child, nowadays I don’t read nearly as much as I used to) and she loves to sleep (like her mommy). Bad mix, by the way.

We usually have activities crammed into our evenings, also – meaning that we don’t get to bed in time to get anywhere near the eight hours of recommended sleep, never mind enough sleep. Yes, this means we (ok, mostly I) am kind of cranky during the day. Again, bad mix.

That brings us to Christmas Morning and that stereotype I mentioned earlier. Here I am, up since about 0630 (the dogs let me sleep in a little bit), the paper has been read, and the rest of the house – is silent. TMBWitW’s alarm has gone off, but I haven’t heard anything else. She wanted to get up and make fresh cookies to hand out at the service this morning. MEG’s room is quiet as a library. Now that they have eaten, the dogs have decided that it’s nap time.

So, to my liberal family and friends – Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2014, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere). Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

Have they left? Good. To my conservative family and friends – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

(the Christmas greeting was gleefully borrowed from my friend, Texas Fred)

“May the father of all mercies scatter light, and not darkness, upon our paths, and make us in all our several vocations useful here, and in His own due time and way everlastingly happy.”

George Washington (1790)

May this post find you in good health, with God’s blessings, and a calm finish to this year, while you also have a healthy and happy outlook towards the New Year.

And with that, I close another year of blogging. Sorry it’s been scarce. I’ll RESOLVE to do better next year.

Hey, speaking of resolutions – remember these resolutions from this year?

I feel I have lived more for God and less for me. If you don’t think so, please let me know how you perceive how I’ve lived this last year, compared to previous years. I want to improve.

I have, for the most part, given up soda. Except for the occasional drink. I am down from 228 to 210ish. I still have a ways to go.

I posted a picture or three of places I have gone where it has been posted they do not allow weapons (in particular, they do not allow revolvers with a red circle around them and a slash through them. it’s ok, my semi-automatic is not a revolver, and there are no red geometric shapes anywhere near it). I refrained from posting pictures that could land me in federal prison. Yes, I am currently carrying concealed as I sit here in my house typing this post. Can you guarantee my safety in my own house? I can and do guarantee the safety of my wife and daughter whenever I am with them.

Be It Resolved:

January 1st, 2013 . by Cary

I posted a couple of resolutions on Facebook earlier. A couple of them were jokes. Several were not.

I do resolve to live for God more and for myself less.

I do resolve to actually back up giving up the soda with an increase in physical fitness, with the intended result of losing weight. Lots of weight. This morning I was at 228. That’s about fifty more than I should be carrying around. And, of course, I feel it every step of the way. Although to be sure, I am down from the 250 I was about three or four years ago.

And the most controversial resolution so far: I resolve to carry concealed wherever I go. Yes, even where open carry is acceptable, I will still keep it concealed. Why? Because the bad guys don’t deserve any more warning than what they give their intended target.

Goodbye, 2012!

December 31st, 2012 . by Cary

It’s been a good year – back in the industry I’ve loved for so long, and things are looking up on a personal level.

Nationally, I continue to pray for the leaders God has set in place.

We must have one heck of a lesson to relearn, if this current administration is the example.

Happy New Year, and see you in 2013!
