The First Tuesday of Fall

September 25th, 2007 . by Cary

You may have to live in a warm region (heh – he said “warm”) like Phoenix, Yuma, or, recently, SoCal, in order to appreciate this next statement –

Ah! Fall! Time to open the doors, let the cool breezes flow through, and take a shower that is not automatically HOT!

The last two mornings, the thermometer was broken – no, really, it was – because it said it was cooler outside than inside. After a record breaking summer of temps over 110 (I think the old record was 28 days, this year we had – I believe – 32) it is glorious to be able to walk outside in the morning and not burn the soles of your feet.

My shower this morning was actually cold. Usually, just turning on the cold tap produces water hot enough for most people’s showers in the winter. I needed to turn it past the normal point to mix in some water from the water heater to get it up to shower temp – not much, in my case, since I really do prefer a shower slightly cooler than most people I have discussed this with – which means the ground is cooling off. That means the pipes, which weren’t buried deep enough to keep the water from being heated before delivery, are no longer being baked. Which tells me, in the end, that Fall has officially arrived.

This brings us, unfortunately, to a very awkward time of year, because now that the temps have dropped at night, we don’t need to use the AC all night. Some of you may be saying, “What’s the big deal?” I’ll tell you the big deal – the electric bill. Even keeping the house at a relatively warm 78 (most businesses in Phoenix keep their buildings around 72 – 74, so most people keep their houses the same) our bill would top $450 a month if we didn’t have a program that allows us to pay the same amount each month. This allows us to run a deficit in the summer, and build up a slight reserve in the winter, so we don’t have to take out a second mortgage to keep our cool.

Cooler weather = starting to erase the deficit and build the reserve. We have electric heat also, but I have only used that once, when we first moved in and we didn’t have all the animals creating so much ambient heat. The last five winters we haven’t turned it on at all.

(Hmm – I can see the Global Warming lemmings lining up here – let me dispel you all by saying that Phoenix is in the desert, and in the southwest, in case you are also geographically challenged. Even in the ‘cold’ years, it’s hot here. Now, go play with your Al Gore trading cards.)

Hope you all have a wonderful week – enjoy the cooler weather!

It’s Friday. Go here, buy a shirt, and show your support.

Whoops – lost a whole week there. Sorry ’bout that – what with a head cold, a non-sleeping daughter, a bout of insomnia, an eye infection, and trying to actually accomplish things like building samples for the business, the blog tends to be pushed to the back burner on occasion. Oh, and Thursday afternoon – a migraine. Hadn’t had one of those in a while, so it was probably due.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no greater joy than to hold your infant in your arms as they sleep.

That is pure JOY.

Wear Red On Friday

It’s Friday. Go here, buy a shirt, and show your support. Don’t forget to take a picture and send it back, so you, too, can be in the customer files!

Well, number 10,000 came and went, and didn’t let me know who they were. Another milestone, another fabulous prize going back into the prize bin.

MEG has decided that she doesn’t need to go to sleep when everyone else does – she’ll stay up and play for quite a while before laying her head down. This would be fine, if we were independently wealthy and TMBWitW didn’t have a job to go to every morning bright and early. We’re kind of early birds – we go to bed around nine, and get up around five. MEG, however, isn’t going to sleep until 11:30 or midnight, and I get worried to the point where I stay up and listen until she falls asleep.

We are headed north for the weekend – a cousin is having a birthday party, and we’ll be up there, but back in town in time for church. Here’s praying you all have a blessed weekend yourselves.

Thank you for stopping by, God bless you all, Wear Red on Fridays, support Warriors for Innocence, and write in Cary Cartter for President in 2008!

Monday Campaign Notes – 9/10/2007

September 10th, 2007 . by Cary

Some readers may not have realized that I have actually been running a word-of-mouth campaign since January 6, 2007. There have been some recent entries into the race for President, and there have been a lot of developments since then. I though it might be a good idea to go over some of the reasons I am running for President.

Other readers, having been with me and supporting me from the beginning, may recognize these words, since they were in my original post declaring my candidacy.

I can hear you wondering, “Cary, what do you know about running the country?”

I know enough not to let armed invaders get away without some ventilated clothing.

I know enough not to let non-citizens claim rights under our constitution.

I know enough not to allow illegal immigrants to benefit from the hard work of the American citizens and legal immigrants.

I know enough to actually assign jobs to people trained in the area, and then get the h3ll out of their way while they do the job to the best of their ability.

I know enough that unless this country gets a leader with the intestinal fortitude to actually lead this country instead of letting other country’s public opinion dictate the leaders’ actions, this country won’t exist for very long.

I promise to look after THIS country’s best interests first. Yes, there will be some hard rows ahead, but what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger.

Now, this is not a full listing of my stand. I have many entries over the last few months (for example, here, here, here, here, and most of all here)

As I said, this is a word-of-mouth campaign. I need everyone who reads this to help me get the word out. Tell everyone you know to “Write In Cary Cartter for President in 2008!”

But, this campaign needs help. Lots of help. Each state where I will be a write-in candidate needs me to file with them the names of electors from that state. The electors will travel to the electoral college after the November 2008 election, and cast their vote for me as the candidate. Travel is reimbursed, if that makes a difference. Then there are the states that don’t accept write-in candidates for the office of President. My name needs to appear on the ballot on those states. I will need, besides electors, people willing to circulate and file petitions for my name to appear on the ballot.

All of these positions would be on a volunteer basis. As mentioned, travel to the electoral college would be reimbursed.

This campaign is running on word of mouth and no expenditures – and no contributions are being solicited. If enough volunteers can get together and cause a grass-roots swelling happen, then Cary Cartter can be elected President of the United States in November 2008.

If you feel you are Out of Voting Choices, then choose to Make a Difference – write in Cary Cartter for President in November 2008. Please help me get the word out.

Friday Update

September 7th, 2007 . by Cary

It’s Friday. You know what to do.

As of this writing, I have had 9990 visitors. If you happen to be visitor number 10,000, would you please let me know? The counter is in the left margin – just hunt around a bit.

I’m working on a bid for a house renovation – the owners are retired, and they are both in a care facility. The family has asked me to bid a few things to spruce the place up, and then they will be deciding whether to sell the house or keep it as a rental for a while.

Have a good weekend – I know I will!
