I Need Your Help

November 18th, 2009 . by Cary

I have a BlogTalkRadio show, called The “O” Word” on Friday mornings at 0700 hours Mountain Standard Time. Sometimes, I go into a show and don’t have the faintest idea what I am going to talk about. Sometimes, it works out, and other times… not so much. I am asking you, my readers who might also be my listeners, to help me out by suggesting stories that I might research and talk about on the show.

They don’t have to be anything deep and thoughtful – the farmer down the road from you who has the two headed calf would be a good story point to start from – and as my listeners know, the rabbit trails get pretty convoluted after the first sentence. So , really, anything would work. Leave a suggestion in the comments here, and I will even credit you with the idea seed on the air.

Yes, this would make you co-producers of the show. I’ll read the credits at the end, if you would like, and you can hear your name on the air then, too. Anything. Anything at all.

(actually, I got this idea from Dirty Jobs – Mike Rowe is always asking viewers for ideas, and they are well over 200 episodes…

Meanwhile, I’ll be working on the family tree some more. Click the “Wisconsin Cartters” tab on the headliner to see how far I’ve gotten.

Chat ya later…

Giant snakehead fish invading Great Britain, and the likelihood one might find its way to 10 Downing Street?

That’s a good one. 10 Downing could use one of those wandering the halls to keep them on their toes.

Come to think of it, one or two in the bathtubs at the White House wouldn’t be a bad idea either…

Seriously Cary, I don’t know how interested you are in environmental issues, but I’ve heard you have a problem in Arizona with Bullfrogs taking over territory formerly inhabited by other types of frogs, endangering those critters.
I’m not an environmental “wacko”, but I am concerned with the impact some of these issues are having on our world.

Well, of course any time an animal declines, it is of concern – IF the cause can be traced to human interference (think chubb minnow in the Colorado River after the dams were built) then humans need to correct it; if it can be attributed to a natural occurrence (think an aggressive species of frog taking over a less-aggressive species’ territory) then humans need to butt out and let nature run it’s course.

Keep an eye on it? Yes. Jump in and try to “correct” it every time it happens? No. Be concerned, and watchful? Heck, yeah!

Speaking of frogs. Some year back a large eel was caught in a small lake(Lake Dixie Springs) just north of McComb, Mississippi. Its a land locked lake some 100 miles or so north of the Gulf of Mexico. The strange thing is that it had a tatoo on it (numbers) to make a long story short the numbers were an identifying mark and were placed on the eel before releasing him in the Pacific Ocean. How did the eel find his way to Mississippi. First time visitor found you via link at Texas Freds. I am known as the Silver Fox on that site. Visit me sometimes at Totus.

(Then you will be known as Silver Fox here, also, unless you prefer going by your real name everywhere! I’ll drop by soon, I promise.)

Welcome, Silver Fox. That’s a good one, also. I’ll mention it on the show, and see what comes up as possible explanations – although it sounds like another case of a yahoo releasing an illegally caught critter in a non-native habitat.
