Whatcha Been Up To?

September 5th, 2013 . by Cary

I had a long drive over the weekend – went up to Colorado Springs to visit Harold, the guy who built the Black Canyon Railroad (see the tab in the header). While I was “In the area” I took an hour and a half drive up to Longmont to spend some time to visit with my cousin, who has been fighting juvenile diabetes since the age of 15. That was 47 years ago. I’m glad I got the chance to spend time with Bev and her husband, George. I may not get another chance.

I really like this stretch of I-40 and the rock formations.

On top of Raton Pass. It had been a long time since I came into Colorado via this route, it’s still as beautiful as ever.

Real Weather. Can you believe that when it rains there, the temperature actually drops quite a bit?

Cimarron Street in Colorado Springs, it got dark and rainy after this so I quit taking pictures while I was driving.

A bonus was driving by and confirming a childhood home in Longmont. Saw it, recognized it, and had a flood of memories come crashing back in. So overwhelmed I forgot to take pictures.

Since the trip, I’ve gotten back into updating the genealogy here on the site. I’ll be making updates now and again.

Well, I’ve probably chewed your ear enough for a while.

I Need Your Help

November 18th, 2009 . by Cary

I have a BlogTalkRadio show, called The “O” Word” on Friday mornings at 0700 hours Mountain Standard Time. Sometimes, I go into a show and don’t have the faintest idea what I am going to talk about. Sometimes, it works out, and other times… not so much. I am asking you, my readers who might also be my listeners, to help me out by suggesting stories that I might research and talk about on the show.

They don’t have to be anything deep and thoughtful – the farmer down the road from you who has the two headed calf would be a good story point to start from – and as my listeners know, the rabbit trails get pretty convoluted after the first sentence. So , really, anything would work. Leave a suggestion in the comments here, and I will even credit you with the idea seed on the air.

Yes, this would make you co-producers of the show. I’ll read the credits at the end, if you would like, and you can hear your name on the air then, too. Anything. Anything at all.

(actually, I got this idea from Dirty Jobs – Mike Rowe is always asking viewers for ideas, and they are well over 200 episodes…

Meanwhile, I’ll be working on the family tree some more. Click the “Wisconsin Cartters” tab on the headliner to see how far I’ve gotten.

Milestones

November 18th, 2008 . by Cary

Yesterday marked a milestone.

Nothing earth-shattering, so you really don’t need to rush out to the card shop or anything.

Under the tab labeled The Wisconsin Cartters you may (or may not, depending on how curious you are) have noticed that I have the story portion completed and online. All that is left is the family tree portion. Page scans and pictures are in the works…

I may not have mentioned this when it happened, but I was ordained as a Deacon a few weeks ago. I’m still surprised when I am addressed as “Deacon Cary” and I kinda look around a bit in confusion. Just thought you’d like to know.
